Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
The thing about OCD is that it always makes us doubt ourselves. And it seems to know just how to push our buttons to create fear in us. It makes up these crazy thoughts and scenarios, and they just grow and grow in our heads and feel so real. And it's relentless.
Try to separate the OCD thoughts from your thoughts. I know this can be hard because the two often get so muddled up. But just know that these doubts and fears you are having are simply OCD thoughts. As bad as it feels now, the thoughts will eventually fade. Sometimes, writing out these thoughts or telling someone about them helps. Just getting the OCD thoughts out of our minds takes away a lot of their power.
You are a wonderful, caring person. Don't let OCD try to tell you any different. You are cared about and loved by your family as well, I am sure of it. I know it's hard, though, when those close to us cannot understand our OCD. I think when people love us, they feel frustrated and upset because they hate seeing us suffer, but they feel powerless to do anything.
Just remember this- you are a good person, you are loved, and you are NOT your OCD.
