I am 27 years old and weigh 224 pounds as of today. I did weigh 276 so you can see I lost weight all on my own. (Before dialysis). I have polycystic ovaries and kidneys. I am on peritoneal dialysis which makes it harder to lose weight, my doctor is upset that I haven't lost more. He gets on my case about it all the time and now he wants me to have gastric bypass surgery. I don't know it thats a good idea? What do you think?

Congrats on the weight loss thus far! That's great! So sorry, you are having trouble losing weight now that you are on dialysis. I'm sorry you are on dialysis. I was close to having the lapband surgery, but didn't go through with it. I have had three friends who have had gastric bypass and two of them have already gained the weight back, the other one is actually doing really well on it. There are risks to everything you do, but my advice to you is never to let anyone talk you into doing something you don't want to do. If you don't feel its right for you then don't do. Explore other options for weight loss with you doctor. Your doctor should be there to encourage you to lose weight and not make you feel you don't have other options. Good luck! I had RNY gastric bypass 17 months ago and would do it again in a heartbeat, it was the best decision I ever made for myself. I suggest you do a lot of research and talk to your doctor and decide if it is the right thing for you. Decide for yourself, don't let outside influences decide for you. YOU are the one looking out for YOU.

If my math is correct you have already lost 52 pounds polykid! Good for you. I can't advice about what you should do.What do you want to do? I would suggest gathering as much information as you can about gastric bypass surgery and talking with people who have had it and who have decided against it,then talking with your doctor about it.
I think you doing great already with the weight you have lost. Keep going and keep us posted as to your decision.

Congrats on your weight loss :) You are a winner! I love Kristi's suggestions! If you don't want to do the gastric bypass, don't do it...explore other options.

I don't know how tall you are, but, my understanding of gastric bypass surgery is that it's only for someone who is morbidly obese and has at least 100 lbs to lose. You've already lost 52 lbs on your own. Maybe your condition makes it more difficult to lose weight, but, having gastric bypass at your current weight sounds a little extreme to me.

This surgery is not something you do because your doctor is impatient. I would just tell your doc to back off and lose the rest on your own.
