I decided to go see a movie last night. I stopped at the bathroom first. I have never seen one so small with only two stalls. I first thought there was only one and asked the lady there about it and she said no there were two. I said I wonder which one is handicap. I went to look and see if that one was available. I told her I couldn't tell and then I could.
She said you are no more handicapped then I am. Then if it was empty do you think I would be standing here? I told her I thought maybe she was waiting for the other one. She said she would take the first one that became available.
Then she proceeded to tell me that doctors give out handicap placards to people who don't need them, they just need to walk more. She said her daughter is in a wheelchair and she is really handicapped.
I said you can't always tell a person is handicapped, it isn't apparent. I told her of my daughter has rheumatoid arthritis and if a person saw her they would think she was ok.
She said "is that right?"
Then she told me she worked at a handicap business. I said that is good. I wondered later if it was really good or bad because of her attitude.
The non-handicap stall became available and she went in it. I just left because I didn't want to see her again.
She thought because I am overweight I only needed to walk and not use the handicap bathroom stall. I have true reasons for using it. I wasn't going to stand there and explain it. She would have connected it all with my weight anyhow and I knew it. Why are some people so judgmental with overweight people?
I have to let go of this and realize she wanted to hurt someone and she was very angry.It was more about her I think but it still hurt me. I thought about it today and realized I had some things that were important. Did it help her think, doubt it.

Now I park way away from stores to get in every step that I can.
Health and medical cost and economic cost, effects everyone, even the Dr s schedule.. they half to schedule n/r spend more time w disabled r at person.
Please don't spend your day away from yourself/ your life and family... my focus is on me and my health then my Mother then my siblins... not on others. however I appreaciate what others say even if its constructive critisum.I have always lived by this: who are they to me and it's my life n this is key. what every anyone says to r against me will not matter in 10 years so it really means nothing more than making money/livelihood/nest egg.

My mom's knees are shot, and she has one too, but doesn't LOOK disabled. But she's obese, and people look and comment. I have friends with fibromyalgia who don't look disabled yet struggle with their daily living tasks.
The general public can be frustrating.
It is ignorance for sure that causes this.
Not everyone who is disabled shows it outwardly.
I went to buy some slacks for my nephew's funeral. I tried on a size 3X but they were too large. This is the first time in a LONG time that I have been able to wear a size 2X.
Everybody and I do mean everybody does.
so get a grip. I will live a long good quality of healthy life That's my goal/intent.

My late father had a handicapped placard because of his lungs. He had COPD, which is what killed him, and couldn't walk far. He looked great on the outside. Always well dressed and with good posture. Now I have a placard because of my amputation. They're wonderful if you need them, but all too often otherwise able bodied people use the handicapped spots because they're "just running in for a minute." I always want to tie one of their legs bent double at the knee so they only have one functioning leg. Let them have a minor taste of what it's like.
Non-handicapped people using the handicapped bathroom stalls to change clothes, have long phone conversations, and otherwise use them like a personal office really get to me. If I see it in time I get in front of the door and block their exit. Make them look at me and my wheelchair for at least a few seconds. They usually apologize, some say "I didn't realize you wanted to get in here." As if that excused their behavior?
How I wish I could walk! I used to swim several times a day (we had a pool at our house) and that kept me in good shape. Since my amputation I think my weight has almost doubled. I just hate this sedentary life but know that one of these days I'll be walking again. I just have to decide to wear that stupid prosthetic leg, get my muscle strength back up, improve my stamina, and I'll start losing. At least, that's what I tell myself now.
I have Zero stamina/ It is all that I can do to last 10 minutes on stationary bike. I get in 10 to 30 minutes 2 to 4 time week.
DSB. I have my stup moments. Uep at times I can come across as ignorance. but I know I'm free from debt and I still don't have need of someone to have power of my finances/health....
Haw. when I know that there is no one in restroom nor headed toward the public rest room. will ya I have used the handy stall.
Store take customers money to assist with having and maintaining in store rest rooms.
Now I have friends who have 1.5 legs. very rare will they use mobile chair. they laugh when they see people like me who uses a chair as a walking cane.
anywhoo. for those whom feel that they work for store bath room security. LOL. when it comes to everyone I know including myself. Please show us State issued badge when u feel the need to try to invade and imtimidate and cause us to be come concerned.
I will knock the @#$@ out of anyone who gets to dam close.
