Obesity Support Group
This community is dedicated to those of us struggling with obesity. Obesity is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Find the support you need by sharing your story, asking questions, and learning from others on how they have coped.
Another suggestion is to do a journal. As adults, since a LOT of us deal with things that negatively affected us during our childhoods, (which made us consequently turn to food for comfort), journaling really helps to bring those thoughts/feelings/beliefs that can be buried to the surface. Also, journaling is great in zeroing in on issues with food.
There are also a lot of great books out there centered on unhealthy relationships with food. Geneen Roth has an excellent one that came out recently, "Women, Food and God". Excellent, excellent book. You can buy a copy at Amazon.com for 11.67 plus shipping, or pick up a copy at your local library. If you go to Amazon and type 'women food and god' in the search, it also gives you a lot of other book choices about food addiction, unhealthy food relationships, etc. Same for your local library.
You're to be commended for wanting to focus on this. I can't tell you how many posts I read here where the person thinks all they have to do is eat X number of calories a day, exercise X number of minutes a day and be able to successfully lose weight; when starting at "why do I overeat?" is the first step.
Wishing you the best on your journey!
