Rule of thumb: if your clothes don't fit and are becoming loose, you are losing weight. I have been on my journey for a year now and I have gotten over the anticipation of seeing what I weigh. For me, those are just numbers. I see real results and triumphs in the compliments from friends and family and having to wear baggy clothes. I don't own a scale and go to the doctor about four times a year for check ups and weigh ins.
We are all different and different methods work for different folks. It took me a long time to figure out the right formula for me. If it would benefit anyone, this is what I have done to lose 60 pounds over a year:
walk/jog at least twice a week for 40 mins
I got off of my antidepressants (with the doctor's care and over a span of six months of tapering off) which caused an extreme weight gain over several years
I take several vitamin supplements including green tea extract with hoodia for appetite suppression, cinnamon for blood sugar, and krill oil for heart health
I take white bean extract pills three times a day 30 mins before meals with carbs.... this has helped me lose at least 10 pounds per month in the last 4 months and was recommended by Dr. Oz
I drink a lot of water.... no soda whatsoever...one glass of milk for breakfast
I eat a lot of fiber and take a fiber supplement daily
Snacks include hummus and pita chips, carrots, celery, tomatoes, and a cup of hot tea
I rarely eat out but instead make all my own meals such as veg. soup, baked chicken, steamed veggies and rice, and salads with beans... lots of fiber is a must
I eat three meals a day and eat smaller portions and never have seconds... if I am still hungry, I will drink more water or munch on veggies
I am lucky to not have a sweet tooth so I don't have a problem with eating sweets, candy, and sugary foods
My doctor works closely with my progress and gives me new ideas for losing the next portion of weight... once I started walking and jogging, my metabolism kicked into gear and the weight started coming off faster. I really like walking because it is easy and doesn't take any special skills.
Good luck to everyone and I wish all of us great success in our journeys.
Seriously tho.... there is some great advice for me in these posts and I am printing this thread so I can also start the new year right.
I am currently going off my anti-depressent/pain blocker meds as we speak and I am also weaning off of an anti-inflammatory med at the same time. Today is day ONE and so far it is going ok. Walked alot more today than normal so am stiff and hurting, but it is most likely due to the walking and not the med denial.
I will be checking in with dr too as you did findinghope. I will be having bi-monthly phone conversations with him and his nurse and go see him in Feb for a one month check up. To be honest, I am a little scared, but excited as well. Along with saying goodbye to these meds, I am hoping to lose 20% of my body weight (or about 40 lbs) in 2013.
You ladies advice will be sure to help!
Thanks for that!
