Yes easier said than done. I know. I weigh 286 lbs @ 5'3 and I am considered morbidly obese. I count myself lucky that I am still able to move around with little trouble, yes I get winded going up and down stairs and sure if I run I think I'm going to die, but day to day things aren't impossible, as they can be for some.
However, in doing research on what work outs are best for morbidly obese people, I found there are quite a few options for people who are not able to move a round a lot.
Any movement that is more than what you normally do will help, but eating right is 70% of it, working out is only 30% of it.
I never considered myself to be an over eater, in fact I at a lot less than most people I knew. What I didn't realize is I wasn't balancing my meals properly and I was eating junk. I didn't over eat i just didn't eat healthy. In fact not eating enough put my body in starvation mode so I was storing fat.
I've started using portion control, following the portion suggestions on the items I eat (sometimes less) and counting my calories using a site called MyFitnessPal.com it is very helpful. I also have been eating more frequently, instead of one or two meals a day, like I used to do, I have 5 or 6 small meals or snacks. About 300 calories a meal. I've lost 11 lbs since March 19th doing this plus working out 3-5 days a week.
If you can't do a lot of walking and moving around, do the "sit and be fit" style work outs. Search for "Work out videos for obese people" on google or youtube, I've found pleanty that show you work outs you can do sitting down.
Do what you can until you can do more.
There was a time not too long ago when I couldn't even get up in the morning with out help to walk from my boyfriend. My Feet and legs hurt so bad I'd be crying and I couldn't walk with out help. Honestly, I don't know if I weighed more or what, because I refused to step on a scale. The issues went away when we moved and I got a different job, almost magically, but I'm sure being more active and gradually eating better has helped.
My point is I do understand how tough it can be to lose weight and to live as a morbidly obese person. Hang in there and just do your best to improve yourself everyday.
I am part of a group called Weight Loss Buddies on here you may want to consider joining that group too. They are very supportive. :)
Good luck to you, I hope you feel better.
I don't think they mean to be harsh, and some of them can be sanctimonious assholes about it.
It's very easy to feel overwhelmed when you are beginning a weight loss journey particularly when you are feeling judged. Just take little steps and you will be ok. Having a goal in mind (like being in less pain) will help you. Like Seireness said, most of it is watching your diet. Little changes go a long way.
