Obesity Support Group
This community is dedicated to those of us struggling with obesity. Obesity is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Find the support you need by sharing your story, asking questions, and learning from others on how they have coped.
You may find that postings here tend to be kind of sporadic. I confess to not being as active as I'd like to be ;-) There ARE many very supportive voices here though!
You said something that was really powerful for me. You talked about learning how to love your body as it is but take steps to improve your health. After yo-yoing up and down for decades, I finally hit the same point.
Like all of us, I've had gentle, and not so gentle comments and criticism from friends, family and complete freaking strangers! I took much of it to heart and spent way too many hours of my life feeling alternately hurt, defiant, angry and baffled.
After a long time of working at it, I came to a point where I believe I am beautiful. I don't really care who agrees with me. They don't get to live in my skin. Their opinion of me is none of my business ;-)
So even though I'm beautiful, I am NOT healthy. No arguing with that one. So that is what had to change. Losing weight to fit someone else's idea of what I should look like never seemed to work for me. Actually it usually made me kind of angry and I always quit. Losing weight because I truly want to feel better, move more easily and have more energy - that seems to be working ;-)
So with my little mini-blather there, I send you this wish -- I hope for you that you find the place where you love yourself enough to improve your health. The ONLY person on the planet you need to do this for is for you. And you CAN do it!
Best wishes on the start of a successful journey!
I love this group and also the Diet and Maintenance group. It is so great how we all approach our healthy lifestyle in different ways. The balance act is all different for us.
It seems like it involves excercise and food in the right amounts to get us healthy.
I am working on 3 meals and 2 snacks. Been good for the most part. I want to stop my grazing and food binges that happened way to frequent. Anyway heres to a great start and please post your journey at any time....
