Hello, I'm new to the group. I've found out I have a genetic disorder called HNPP. My body doesn't make the myelin sheath properly so I'm more prone to pressure paralysis (pins and needles) and weakness. I have lost the feeling in half of my left hand and it has been ongoing for over a year. I saw a neurologist about what I could do. He told me that due to my condition, my body couldn't repair nerve damage. At best my hand will stay exactly as it is, at worst I will lose feeling, and strength, in the whole of my hand. He mentioned they may be able to do surgery to release the ulna nerve, but that it was inconclusive if that would help at all and no surgeons in my area will do it. Has anyone else heard of this disorder? Should I push for the surgery, even though there is a risk they could damage the nerve further? I don't want to lose my left hand, it is my dominant hand.
