I am with you on the issue of pain in your feet. I take 2700mg of Gabapentin daily, 100mg of Amitrptgyline at night and 250mg daily of Tramadol. This keeps the pain at a manageable level mostly but I still have times (like right now!) when the pain is just bloody awful. I have tried a nerve block but that didn't work. I just have to go through it. I am not yet ready to take opiates because of the addiction issue, but it may come to that!

ditto here...never thought feet could hurt so much and people don't get it..nothing has helped me...my dr won't do the opiates they constipate and htings get real weird

Hi, friend. I have it in my feet and now my hands. I take 600 mg Gabapentin, amitrypaline at night because I cannot manage day to day taking any higher dose of it. If I can just get to sleep, and get some rest, I manage the pain better during the day, until lately. The Dr says I can go to 1500 mg before they do more aggressive actions for the pain. I would be a zombie, I am sure. I have dealt with the inability to take my long hikes and walks in the mountains and at the ocean. I have consoled myself with my art and writing. Now it hurts with every tap of a key and my art has become harder and harder to do. I cannot imagine what it will be to not be able to do the things I love and live to do. I hope that we can communicate and find a way to get through some of the long nights.

I have nueropathy in my feet, legs, hands and arms, also in my face at times. Right now my right arm from and hand and fingers are really bad, just like the above. I take 600 mg Gabapentin 3 times a day. I also take Cymbalta, all the combinations help along with vitamins. Mrs.babblebr, I know just how you feel!

Oh animalove, your feet sound like mine. And, yes, I have it in my hands so that I can hardly type unless I take pain med before I do any real typing on the keyboard. And I am a published poet and am an artist.. oh, how difficult and frightening it is to lose the use of my hands. I am supposed to be on two 300 mg capsules three times a day and my doctor in Canada said I could only go up to 1500 before they would have to find something different. But, omg, like you, I am dopey nutz if I take any more that just the 600 at night time. On days my pain tolerance is really bad...like, if I have walked once around a Walmart Store, then I will have to take some during the day. But, the buzzing from my spine and over across my shoulder blade is now driving me around the bend and I find I have wicked mood swings ( hello, again, menopause????) I have survived many things and beaten many things I should not have, but this takes the cake. I drop things, I weep at the drop of a hat ( so unlike the upbeat person I have always been no matter what I was going through) and I feel a downright bitchiness betimes, that takes all my energy to dang well control. It is not fair for me to be miserable because I refuse to take all the meds.
What do the ret of you do for the buzzing, wormy, shocky feelings that follow the nerve lines? It now is all day long and makes me feel antsy and uncomfortable. It does not hurt...just is annoying as heck and I could scratch the skin off my back with a wooden scratcher - and actually have a time or two.
Lord but it is hard to get older. I take Gabapentin, 60 mg amitryptaline at night and Tylonel # with codeine...(but that is only at night and when absolutely I can not bear another moment, so about once or twice a week night and I want to be knocked out...) I am going to have to give in, truly, but I am dull-witted when I take more. I tried Lyrica and was an absolute druggy with it... dopey all day long...and gained 20 pounds in a month. Besides it did not help. I am still so danged non-compliant. I am denial, I suppose and living in a fairytale world where this was not suppose to stay but should go away.
Well, that is my rant for the night....

I have tinnitus along with my neuropathy also, but my neurologist didn't see any correlation between the two. What kind of chemical poisoning did you have?

I realize now I already mentioned my tinnitus in my original post. What do you find exacerbates your tinnitus and what helps to reduce it? As with the neuropathy? Thanks.

I am surprised by some of the posts here that 1500mg of Gabapentin seems to be around the limit that a dr will prescribe. Here in the UK the highest daily dose recommended is 3600mg although my pain doc says that research has shown that it doesn't tend to be any more effective for neuropathic pain past the 2700mg I am currently on.

The other thing that is weird is that many of you talk about being dopey, zombied etc when taking these drugs - these are side effects and most side-effects go over time if you persevere with the drug. I used to be almost knocked out for days when I first started taking tramadol and that was just 100mg yet these days I take 250mg without any sleepiness at all.

I am not sure about whether it affects my brain as my memory is so damn shot to pieces and I can't decide if that is the meno pause or not LOL

I've been taking gabapentin 300mg in am, 300mg pm and 600mg at nite for 6 months now and I still feel dopey. How long does it take to not feel dopey? It's not helping the pain that much anymore but I'm afraid to go off it because the pain may be that much more severe. I don't want to go up in dosage because of the dopey effect and that dose would stop working too. I feel stuck and afraid.

I am hanging in there, as I of now my hands and arms and fingertips are driving me up a wall, you all take care and feel for all of you!

,....Hi, I am new to this site. I have severe neuropathy in my feet. I went to a foot doctor and got shoes, orthos, and cortisone inj. the works. My MD put me on gabapentin, I have been taking 300mg a day, and I know I need more, but I am taking more meds than food at this time. It is like my feet are being elect. shocked - all the time, I am sure you all can relate. The question I have is - I heard about a new laser treatment for the feet, about three visits, and 90% of the pain is gone! Has anyone else have any info on this? thanks,G-
