Narcolepsy Support Group
A sleep disorder (somnipathy) is a disorder in the sleep patterns of a person or animal. Some sleep disorders can interfere with mental and emotional function. If you are having trouble falling asleep or having some other kind of sleep disturbance, this group is for you.
I have an alarm system and it makes a very faint beep when it is set. One night I told my daughter to set it before she went to bed because I had to get some rest. When she set it, I heard the beeping, jumped out of bed hollering her name (that beep is the same sound the alarm makes right before the siren sounds also) to see if she set it or if somebody had broken into the house. It was just her setting it.
And then when she has friends over (teens), they have to be extra quiet now (where as before I was dead to the world) because I will wake up, and if I do I can't always get back to sleep depending on where I am in my sleep cycle.
Then the sleep walking and sleeping eating stopped completely once i started taking Xyrem. And I can think during the day. I am still pulling out of a few things in other areas so I'm not fully stabilized, but not too long ago I wouldn't even be able to compose this information in my head, let alone type it!
I don't eat or drink anything four hours prior to taking Xyrem at my doctor's instructions. I know the company says 2.5 hours but I have found that the difference between four hours and 2.5 hours has a huge impact in my quality of sleep so I stick w/the four hours. I do drink water though. Just not anything else.
The biggest "downer" for me is that I don't dream. I had beautiful happy dreams before I started taking it. Now I don't recall any dreams. But that's a small consolation to pay in order to have my sanity back!
Great post XyremHappy, I hope others share their stories also so people can see what it's like :)
Anyway I will pass it on to my new doctor for my diabetes.
