When working as a hiring manager at a property management firm (ages ago now) I was required to drug test potential employees and employees who had been in injury accidents. The drug test paperwork contains fields to list any and all prescription and over the counter drugs - as long as you do so, the screening will include that information when it is delivered to the employer who may or may not choose to verify the existence of a prescription. However, ONLY if the use the drug has the potential to create work issues can the employer use it as a criteria for hiring or retaining an employee. It is 100% illegal to discriminate against a person based on treatment for any medical condition that is not directly impacting the ability to perform the function of the position.

You MUST be willing to stand up for yourself on this, however, and that includes simply being able to explain to employers about what you take and why. If you do so in a non-confrontational but firm manner, you will succeed :-)

Panda's right. If you mark that you take it as a prescription, it will be fine when it shows up. Your potential employer cannot use it as a basis not to hire you when it's on the report. And GENERALLY, you're usually nearly hired by the time a prospective employer is willing to fund a drug test. So they like you already.

I have taken 2 drug test while on Xyrem, and I never told my employees. I past both test. Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) such as (sodium oxybate) found in Xyrem. GHB is rapidly eliminated and has a half-life of 27 minutes on average. The real problem is by taking GHB you increase a growth hormone which is the same hormone used by some body builders. This hormone is the basses for body building despite there being no evidence of an actual increase in your body mass. ( You don't look like a body builder). Well I assume u don't. Peak urine concentrations found that GHB is undetectable in urine after 10-12 hours. They have found 7 mg/L can be found in people who are not taking GHB. In most places the GHB level below has to be above 10mg/L.
So what i am saying is go out get a job and take the drug test and work hard. I have past 2 drug tests while taking Xyrem. I can't guarantee you will pass your drug test but the odds are for you. Lastly what makes you think your job is going to be searching for GHB or a growth hormone. I personally believe you will pass. Companies care more about crack addict and heroine addicts not people with GHB in them or a small amount of growth hormone.
