That is great news that they are finally recognizing sleep disorders. Not so good about the terminating them from their jobs. As long as they are being treated, can that be legal? Shouldnt it be like other diseases that require medication like Diabetes?

I would definitely say that terminating someone just for HAVING narcolepsy is straight up discrimination!

If you have been with a transportation company for a long time and have been a good reliable driver with no accidents on your record, that should be proof that you can handle your job. Especially if you take medications that help.

It goes completely against ADA law.

I agree with tired100 that if you're being treated, it should not be legal for them to terminate you based on a diagnosis.

Remember there are disability advocates in the form of ACLU and ADA agencies to help combat this type of backwoods thinking.

My closest calls came when I was driving, ask my cars. I am glad that Pa. is recognizing sleep disorders. No one should be fired from their job because of a disability. I think maybe some kind of transfer with the same pay may be in order. I can't go long without the nods. I think there is a button on my butt. If I sit more than 20 minutes it's lights out. I would hate to take peoples lives in my hands. But everyone is different.

If these people work for the state of Pa. they will be fired. The state plays by their own rules. Penn Dot workers beware. AFSCME (Union) don't do much to help either.

I would guess the if a driver tested positive for narc the company would have to train them in another job.
