did anyone see the show? A person wrote in, I sleep 7 hours at night but can't stay awake and drink coffee all day.
They responded do not drink coffee, and it could be depression. Just another missed dx.

Good God...does every doctor in this country think EVERYONE is depressed? They must because they are so quick to throw everyone on an anti-depressant. "Take an anti-d and follow up in 6 weeks. If you aren't better, we'll increase the medication. If you still aren't better, we'll increase it again. If you still aren't better, we'll try 4 DIFFERENT anti-d's over the next 5 years and if that still doesn't work, well maybe they'll have a new medication out by then that will help." Use your investigative skills doctors! Listen to your patients! ugh. :)

That sounds like my old doctor. I was like no, I don't just fall asleep. I actually pass out suddenly. On the floor. I can't watch TV, watch a movie, sit at my desk at work, I feel like I might pass out on your floor right now. She said that she wouldn't do anything until I tried at least one antidepressant. I asked for a sleep study since it seems to be sleep related and she said no. I had to get a new doctor because I know that was really wrong, I mean I'm not even a doctor and I know that's not right at all. My new doctor was great and after being tested for this and that I was sent to the sleep guy who knew exactly what was going on. I read that it's really common for people with N to be mistaken for depression but I don't understand how unless they don't have any symptom except EDS.

For me, it was anxiety that kept getting thrown at me. Several doctors, and it was always the same... check thyroid function, if it comes back normal, then anxiety must be the answer. I actually went to see a sleep doc when I started waking up gasping/ unable to breathe. Again, the pcp doc said anxiety must be the cause because younger thin women just can't have sleep disorders. He told me that he would send me to a sleep study if I were male or older, but due to my body type, age, and gender he would prescribe an anti anxiety med... wtf!!! That sounded so biased, and ignorant to me, making me think I should follow his initial thought of the sleep study. So I went anyway, thanks to my new ppo insurance! The sleep doc knew exactly what was going on within minutes! Sounds to me like doctors need a class on sleep disorders! Perhaps in order is a wake up call that young thin women actually CAN have things wrong and it not be depression/ anxiety or just in their heads. It's so crazy that the pcp doc pointed out the proper course of action, and then actually decided to ignore it.
