Narcolepsy Support Group
A sleep disorder (somnipathy) is a disorder in the sleep patterns of a person or animal. Some sleep disorders can interfere with mental and emotional function. If you are having trouble falling asleep or having some other kind of sleep disturbance, this group is for you.
It's definitely due to N; one of it's defining traits is that we reach deep sleep (REM) quickly and stay there most of the night. (Normal sleep takes over an hour to reach REM and it's only 25% of the night) So we dream vividly way more than other people.
Sometimes I am dreaming before I am asleep...I just close my eyelids and vivid imagery starts up and even morphs if I watch it. It's kind of cool actually...lol.
Sometimes I wish though, that I could fall asleep and have a blank night where I just wake in the morning. I awake continuously through the night. My study recorded 60 awakenings in a night. How can you function during the day like this!
I learned that our mind is just as active in the dream state, as it is in awakening life.
I always go to bed about a half an hour before my mom does. I usually will go to bed, have extremely vivid dreams and maybe even some lucid dreams and then wake up to see that the lights are still on.
I used to dread getting up because I was in such a fog from not sleeping. I would wake up thinking when can I nap? ---Right after work or do I need to run errands....although mostly I just went home and napped because I always figured the errand could be done on the weekend or by someone else in the family.
It was my vivid nightmares that had my doc suspect N in the first place.
I was on Clonazepam which helped lessening the severity of the nightmares but I eventually gained a tolerance for it and had to stop taking it.
The Xyrem is helping so much. I'm still adjusting to it. I'm not up to the full dose yet but already the difference is huge. One downside, well two, you have to have a regular schedule (during the week that is okay since I work but the weekends I do go to bed later and seem to still do better with it) and the funny taste I have all day. I hoping it will go away or I'll get used to it. Not terrible but different.
