I am not new to DS and I have been peeking through the digital window at this group since I first found DS.
My oldest son was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 1998 when he was 18 years old. I am pretty convinced I have it and that my large Catholic clan would be a veritable treasure trove of genetic marker data. IF anybody could keep the nuts in the family tree from chewing each other off the tree... Big IF.
As it is, doctors are notoriously expensive to educate and I am not willing to pay the price. Not even with "good" insurance.
No point here. Just presenting myself.
Howdy, ya'll.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Lots of us have multiple chronic illnesses and some of us have genetic disorders. Although am sure that being Catholic would make it worse (kidding, I was one once).
Someone has to educate the doctors about this as one day something one of us has taught a doctor in your area may help your son so it's a matter of paying it forward, there is no price I wouldn't pay to make sure someone didn't go through half the crap I have with N.
Nice to have you in the group, maybe you could convince your son to join too. If not this is a great place to vent or ask advice etc.
I also know I do not have the financial resources to fund even one doctor's education.
My son and I are still not able to discuss it. We are at the stage where he talks and I listen. Small steps.
I don't know if being Catholic has much to do with it. I was raised Pentecostal and my husband is a Rastafarian. Rastafarians stereotyped as being laid back and relaxed, Having said that I'm curious too abouit how far in my roots this N thing goes.
I intended the Catholic part to speak of the size of the clan. Mother was one of 14. Father one of nine, I think. Me one of 11. My two is more the norm for my generation, but the current generation seems to be gravitating back to the large families.
It is nearly its own database of genetic markers, if that particular research is still going... Haven't checked in since 2003 or so.
