Narcolepsy Support Group
A sleep disorder (somnipathy) is a disorder in the sleep patterns of a person or animal. Some sleep disorders can interfere with mental and emotional function. If you are having trouble falling asleep or having some other kind of sleep disturbance, this group is for you.
I am starting my 5th week off xyrem and I am really surprised how well I am doing. I am dreaming like a...well, l like a narcoleptic again-which is kinda fun. I find it harder, but not terribly difficult to get out of bed in the morning but I don't think I am feeling like I need any more meds or caffeine to function then I did when on xyrem. I had had 3 funky/strange/scary incidences in the middle of the night over a 3 month period. Though my sleep doc and Xyrem Success assured me that it wasn't due to the xyrem, ( I also was sure it couldn't be the xyrem-I had been on it so long and believed I couldn't face life again without it) I decided to take 2 month off to see if the incidents ceased...and...so far it appears they have...yet I intend to continue with my plan to restart xyrem after the 2 month break, so see if the incidents start again. Only if they do will I know that somehow they were xyrem related and then swear off xyrem indefinitely. Why take the xyrem again if I am doing well without it?
My family also dealt with the middle of the night stuff. They worried along with me about what was going on and about what might happen every night when I went to bed. They think I am crazy to go back on the stuff. My husband has threatened to rent me an apartment to sleep at. I guess I still have in my head that being on xyrem is "healthier" for me then being off. They have villanised it and see it as the cause of every symptom I ever had-even the ones I had before I had even heard of xyrem. I still think of it as a miracle drug-people are pretty weird, aye?
