I was using a neoprene OTC type. I wore it to bed and during the day if it hurt. The warmth it created somehow made it feel good. It wasn't a rigid type. I would be more careful if you use something like that.
Looking in the TrP book, there are TrPs behind the knees and some that run from the ankle up on the outside of the leg.
My left ankle has been feeling weak so I've been exploring lower leg TrPs
