Myofascial Pain Syndrome Support Group
Myofascial Pain Syndrome (or MPS) is a term used to describe one of the conditions characterized by chronic pain. It is associated with and caused by "trigger points" (TrPs), sensitive and painful areas between the muscle and fascia. The symptoms can range from referred pain through myofascial trigger points to specific pains in other areas of the body. It may be related...
I really have felt better since I got mine taken out on Monday. I was thinking maybe it was just in my head since i was so excited about discovering a possible Mirena - MPS link but I am beginning to think its really not i my head and that the Mirena is what caused this for me..

My pain hasn't improved. I'm not happy about getting periods, AND worst of all, my hair is going hay wire. My wash and go curls have become frizzy waves. I want those hormones back for convenience!
I still have some hope/belief that this could have been a factor in me developing this and think that it would be a HUGE coincidence otherwise when other people have experienced similar symptoms. I am hoping that maybe a few more periods will start showing some results.. for the both of us!
Hopefully the changes in your hair have to do with the weather or something and not your hormones. Thats just icing on the nice cupcake we have been given right???
Here's wishing you many normal periods :-)!! My cycle has never been abnormal so I didn't spot this until recently, but there's been a change to more 'normal' over the last couple of months and I think it's a sign that the physical affects of stress are lessening for me. And hopefully that will be reflected in my muscles PDQ.
I have no answers about the hair problems, as I too am 'blessed' with frizzy kinky hair that never does what I want it to. I've kind of given in now and can't be bothered to try with it any more, lol.
The key concept to understand that what is causing the pain and the pain itself are two different things in two different areas. It's called 'referred pain', caused by a simple muscle knot that contracts so strongly it traps all manner of fibres in it's knot including nerve fibres. Except there's nothing 'simple' about these muscle knots as they just never relax. They need a heck of a lot of 'persuasion' (i.e. treatment) to begin to relax.
The weirdest thing is how you can get the muscle knot (also called a trigger point) in, say, your inner elbow and yet the pain comes out in in your face! Weird.
So it's highly likely that wherever your pain is the actual cause (if it is, indeed, trigger points you're suffering from - it's always essential to make sure all causes are explored) the muscle knots / trigger points are loitering somewhere else.
You need information and a good doctor (it usually takes awhile to find the best doctor and I'm not sure how it all works in the states). I find http://www.amazon.com/Healing-through-Trigger-Point-Therapy/dp/1583946098/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1439317503&sr=1-1&keywords=devin+starlanyl (Healing through Trigger Point Therapy: A Guide to Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction by Devin J. Starlanyl and John Sharkey) because it has the best collection of diagrams of where trigger points are based on where your pain in.
My other 'top pick' for overall explanation and review of treatment options I'd suggest an 'ebook' at www.painscience.com
It'd be worth reading up on muscle knots / trigger points / myofascial pain etc. You don't need a diagnosis to 'have a go' yourself in terms of feeling and finding some of your own trigger points (most people have a few) but if you've been having pain for 2 years with the mirena I would suggest getting a medical opinion on what's going on - you may well be already well ahead on that one.
Have a read through the posts over the last few pages, just remember there is a massive continuum of differences in severity of myofascial pain syndrome, and it's only a few that end up in the really bad 'worse case scenario' you will read here -usually with these sorts of cases there are multiple factors causing the pain. Most people do not have mps as this severe level, thankfully, and recover well once they find and eliminate the cause(s) and find the right treatment.
