Myelodysplasia Support Group
The myelodysplastic syndromes (formerly known as "preleukemia") are a diverse collection of haematological conditions united by ineffective production of blood cells and varying risks of transformation to acute myelogenous leukemia. Anemia requiring chronic blood transfusion is frequently present. Although not a true malignant neoplasm, MDS is nevertheless classified...

You know prayer, you, your Dad and all of us fall into the same thought all the time. I know your staying strong but take a few minutes for your self now and then to just let go, talk to a tree or a really good freind then keep on.
Mike
You and your family are in my prayers. Take Care,
Janet
thank you everyone for the prayers. tomorrow will be 2 weeks since his last plt infusion and thursday 3 weeks for blood. bless his heart, he tells my brother he is still getting blood. so sad to see him mind failing him so badly.
my prayer for you all is they find a cure soon!
Mike..I see you are a member of Patriot Guard..NICE! I am the treasurer of our local CMA chapter and we have several Patriot Guard members...love this group! I just sold my bike last week...cant ride anymore...too dizzy and weak most of the time...so...I guess Im reduced to being "luggage" on hubbys bike! Glad you are still able to be active on yours...Ride on Brother and God Bless!
I sure understand the dizzy and weak. I get what I call the woozys all the time but I thnk that comes for keeping my BP so low. My red counts stay between 7 and 9 so understand where your at.
A friend of mine invited me to Sgt Chauncy's escort from the ariport to his home a few weeks ago and even with no bike they brought me onboard. I drive my car (a cage as they call it) and hope to find a small pickup so I can fly the big flags. I suspect with the chemos, drugs and whatever I'll be limited to escort and brief flag lines stands (especially in the summer heat). It's hard to explain in words the huge honor and privilege it is to stand in honor and support for our fallen heros and other vets and be there for thier families. As for the bike....LOL Mama almost never says no to me and in our "very brief" discussion on the subject I got the ole stink eye and "the look" he he so on with the plan B pickup LOL.
I've met quite a few members of the CMA in the last few escorts and they are a great bunch.with a great mission for the Lord. "Luggage" or not you ride on too and get better.
Mike.
Jerry (husband) and I just got back from MD Anderson on Sat. Jerry was diagnosed with prostate cancer so we are both being treated there. I am still "stable" with my MDS/CMML and he went through an MRI, CAT scan, bone testing and numerous blood tests. He will go through 39 weeks of radiation so we will go back to MDA for two months with his treatment. Texas is a nice place to visit but NOT in the summer. We will do what we have to do though. My last transfusion was March 15 and I am beginning to notice the shortness of breath coming on. I will usually go 8-10 weeks between transfusions and it's been about 5. I have an appt. at MDA with my MDS doctor and later in the day with bone marrow doctor on May 3.
Bless you jally and Mike. My son is in the Patriot Guard. What a fine organization and fine bunch of people. I kind of like riding on the Harley too....:).

Mike, I have to tell you how I laughed at your post. I told my husband about the "ol' stink-eye," & he loved it.
Posh, I'm actually surprised your dad is still hanging in. It's sort of like being in limbo, isn't it?
Susan, you two are facing a double whammy. H had prostate cancer about 10 years ago. He chose cryogenic treatment & is cancer-free now, thank goodness.
Nanajeano, I would guess that something besides your Hgb count is affecting you--low platelets maybe?
We went out of town for the Easter weekend to be witht he grandkids...well their Mom and Dad too. Had a great time but still trying to get back from the battle with the fever so ran out of juice real quick. I'm not sure if I posted it or not but the Bone Marrow test came back with my blasts down to 16% from 23%. That's below the "offical" Leukimia level even though I'm diagnosed with MDS. Still a long ways to go to get below 5% but at least for now going in the right direction.
Posh keep at it. Your Dad's time will come when it does. Keep holding his hand, sharing your love and keep it in the Lord's hands.
Birdmom - yea we all talk about the very few times when Mama gives one or all of us "the look" and the escape routes we need to have in place. This time I got both the stink eye and the look so was able to show my great intelligence in knowing that this issue was a done thing he he.
Have a great week everyone
God Bless,
Mike
good to see everyone doing ok. my prayers are with you all.
