Myelodysplasia Support Group
The myelodysplastic syndromes (formerly known as "preleukemia") are a diverse collection of haematological conditions united by ineffective production of blood cells and varying risks of transformation to acute myelogenous leukemia. Anemia requiring chronic blood transfusion is frequently present. Although not a true malignant neoplasm, MDS is nevertheless classified...
Both you and your father are very blessed. To have the peace that you feel is more rare than one would think.
I will always believe that it is easier to be the patient than the ones who love us. I wish you much strength and courage as you continue to support your father's decisions. As Birdmom said, there comes a time when we are ready to let nature take it's course. I don't know how we decide that, but I'm sure we will know when that time truly comes.
God bless Poshshorty. You are wonderful.

My family knows I have a deal with the Lord that I'm not smart enough to know if it will be Him calling or ole Satan trying to get me to give up so I can't be a positive influence on those around me. We all are aware that sometime in the future the time of "knowing" will come and through the strength we have built together along with our God, just as you and your family have done, we know we will walk through it together.
When he and God come to a conclusion, you'll know that with your strength and love to keep helping him, he will stand at the side of the best Father of all, to watch over you and be needing no more transfusions.
Your truley blessed to know his journey to come and be in the prayers of so many friends here in this group.
Mike
My family knows I have a deal with the Lord that I'm not smart enough to know if it will be Him calling or ole Satan trying to get me to give up so I can't be a positive influence on those around me so I'm going to fight for every breath I can get and trust in His call.
I wish there were some comforting words that could truly help. Just know that there are those of us who are praying for you and your Dad. Be thankful for each and every moment you have together and think of all the good times and not the bad.
God bless you.
Linda
Poshshorty - keep up the faith. You have a strong group of supporters here and between them ...there's an abundance of prayers being said for you, your dad and family.
We miss Chris...you guys are doing a good job but from time to time...we just miss Chris.
Lou hasn't been feeling well again. Three weeks ago he saw his cardiologist and he wanted Lou to try to build up a little stamina. So he's been going to cardiac rehab three times a week and feeling just fair.
Today we went back to the cardiologist and he suggested we skip the stress test and go right to an angiogram to determine the extend of heart damage. With a weak heart ...he's really having troubles staying on top of the MDS symptoms of low energy.
His Hg is 8.9 today and the cardiologist scheduled him for two units of blood tomorrow to give him a good chance for a successful angiogram on Monday.
The last time Lou felt bad was the day of our annual Chamber golf tournament. Now, all this stuff is happening a few days before a big annual Chamber Showcase event with nearly 40 vendors and 200 attendees. Wish us luck!
Appt. tomorrow is at noon at our local hospital...they said to plan for 4 hours.... then 6 hours on Monday...
I think I'll make some fudge this weekend...it always makes me feel better...then we give it all away to our special nurses and caregivers.
Happy thoughts to everyone out there - enjoy the weekend.
PS - Chris would have loved seeing me get #1000 (hee hee hee)
Gayle & Lou Najera
Although I was fairly new here when Chris was around I miss him too. Still hard to believe he is gone at times.
Gayle, I'm so sorry to hear that Lou is not doing well. Keep us posted on results of his tests. Perhaps he has blockages that can be fixed. That was the case with my husband.
Posh, the signs are clear now about your dad. I must admit how envious I am that you have such a great relationship with him. You are truly blessed, & as Mike says, even more so to walk with him to this place in time.
It looks like the transfusions have stopped working. Dad is no better after 5 units in a week. He has made it to his 6 months the dr gave him in april. I can't believe I am facing this now.
