Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Be careful and watch your symptoms, as for most folks MG gets worse and needs something other than mestinon (it treats the symptoms, but not the cause).
Before the modern tests, many doctors diagnosed MG by our symptoms and our response to mestinon. As the tests became available, most doctors changed and won't do the diagnosis without some kind of positive test, although there are some folks who have it who do not rest positive on any of the tests.
Good Luck

Hello Russ, thank you for your supportive post. Reading many of the posts on here, I truly feel lucky that my symptoms are still pretty mild and I am hoping that they won't progress. I have learned so much from reading the posts in this group and its nice to know I am not alone in this. Often, the information available from physicians and other patient focused websites don't give you a complete picture, hearing other peoples experiences has helped me understand this disease so much more. Perhaps some physicians now rely too much on the existing scientific body of knowledge, which is clearly incomplete based on my understanding of what is out there currently.
I will keep an eye on my symptoms, thank you for suggesting it, I have started to keep a log of times when the symptoms seem worse. Thank you.
