Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
THAT's what the neuro wanted to blame it on.
Maybe I should try cutting that by half starting this evening?
Drugs.com doesn't warn of any interactions that I can find for this combo. but certainly I never had this before starting Cellcept.
Thanks in advance.
How are your blood sugar levels? Predisone can make them higher then normal too ... which can cause flushing too.
Do you take all 30 mg at one time?

I have a condition that causes flushing with high blood pressure and was checked to make sure I do not have a pheochromocytoma. It is good to note if the flushing has high blood pressure combined with it and if it does alert your physician.
I also have orthostatic hypotension and rising from a chair will sometimes cause a lowering of pressure but without the flushing.
I can also get low BP just stiting while eating even a small amt.
It is good when you have BP changes to note when they occur. I just mention this since you mentioned the flushing and also mentioned getting up from a chair and that you checked your BP.
BP changes that fluctuate a lot can indicate other problems that need attention so I just wanted to mention that in case anyone has those types of problems that have not gotten attention.
I hope you figure out what is causing the flushing. For quite a while I was on niacinamide that causes flushing but I could temper that with an aspirin per dr's suggestion. Not sure if that would work for other types of flushing or no and of course you would need to know if a baby aspirin a day fits in with your medical condition. Sometimes the side effect is bothersome but can be worked around if needed. Hope you find what is causing this problem and a solution.
Good luck! Marie
Okay - I'll tentatively blame the prednisone.
Thing is, I've been on 20mg / 40mg (every other morning) for 3 months.
Neuro was pleased with my lack of MG symptoms on last visit (5 days ago) and suggested I go to 20 / 30 for 4 weeks, then to 20 / 20 for 4 weeks - but carefuly watch for returning symptoms.
This RED thingie started about 4 weeks ago, always in the early afternoon - but has gotten worse with slight 'pressure headache' all 24 hours, over the last week. Again, BP was 136/83, which gives me some relief of anxiety.
I'll try splitting the prednisone dose to half AM, half PM and see if that helps.
Thanks again !! Everyone !!
Nicole
I'm interested to see if splitting your doses has the same benefit for you as well. Please let us know how that goes for you. Hugs and have a good Tuesday.

Thank you again!
The bizarreness is - onset of bright red face is
- around 2:00 pm
- when I get up from my desk chair to walk
- accompanied by a feeling like "high pressure air" in my head
- very dull, very weak overall headache (not focused)
- BP 138/85 which is quite good for me (normally 151/93-ish).
If I continue to walk around for 20-30 mins, the flushing gets better, but doesn't 'go away'.
So why like clockwork?
If it's my Mestinon-with-lunch, then why not after other meals?
why only upon standing after being seated for an hour or more?
I think this thread is dead now. Thank you all.
I will look up post pranial flushing, for sure.
The thing is, this symptom is new - only within the last 5 weeks, but I've been on 40mg alternating with 20mg pred since December.
2 weeks ago, neuro gave me permission to go to 30/20 for 4 weeks, then go to 20/20 for 4 weeks, then he wants to see me.
I bought one of those glucose meters/strips on line, and my fasting glucose is in the high 80's (86-ish), sometimes in the 90s in the morning. My a1C is '6', and the neuro says it's not time to worry yet.
Oh - it's postprandial and it may be related. I suppose I'll have to order more strips and track glucose when it happens. Although it seems to happen about 2 hours after eating. Hmmmmmm. You might be onto something there. Thanks. Pred leading to higher glucose after meals, getting worse the longer I'm on pred.....hmmmmmmm. I'll get more strips and track it - thanks !!
The postprandial thing got me to thinking what else is going on around that time of day (2-3 PM) and it was coffee (maybe). Caffeine is a vaso-constrictor, not vaso-dilator, so why the severe flushing? Well, I have been cheating by adding a tablespoon of hot cocoa mix (contains sugar) and maybe a girl scout cookie or two. So it could be related to blood glucose levels.
I ordered another box of glucose test strips and started
1. watching my glucose levels if and when I flush
2.avoiding eating or drinking anything that might cause a sudden glucose 'spike'.
So far, so good. Some flushing, but not as severe. Too soon to tell.
Thanks, everyone.
