Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
I thought I was so wiped out most of the time because of my kids and the fact that I wasn't getting a break!
A lot of times when my Husband would get home I would hit the couch for the night and remember just telling myself to "make it through preparing dinner" (but then I would be too weak to eat it).
My house was getting less and less clean... I felt lazy and exhausted! This got worse for about a year and a half. I looked into fibro, chronic fatigue, depression ... but I was mostly pissed off and frustrated (not sad) and I was achy in my limbs (not in pain). I thought maybe I was getting old. I thought having 3 babies in diapers and two with autism was TOO much to handle.
In March I drove myself to an after hours clinic because I thought I was losing my mind! I was shaking and having trouble breathing and VERY weak! I remember not being able to hold the phone to my ear because my arm and shoulder were aching so badly. I thought it was a major panic attack or anxiety... and so did the doctor. I left with a valium prescription.
It was the next evening that my eye started to droop... and then the next it did it again. I took a picture. Looked online for eye drooping. Found Myasthenia Gravis and thought "that's what my cousin has... so maybe???" Then I kept it in the back of my mind until the end of April when I had a gallbladder attack and had to get it removed right away.
On the way home from my gall bladder surgery my eye fell (the whole side of my face fell). I got on facebook for just a second to tell everyone I was home and doing great. My cousin saw my on there and sent me a message asking how I was. I told her about my bell's palsy reaction to the surgery and she said "If it is gone tomorrow go get tested for MG" It was... and I did!
After taking my first mestinon pill... I could SEE! So my vision had been blurry from the MG for a long time without knowing it was caused by anything other than just not wearing my glasses!
LOL... that was a long answer.... But YES I would say that I had at least a year and a half of general symptoms prior to my droopy eye symptoms!
Best wishes,
TJ
