From my experience 28 years ago my Doctor was my best advocate because he used to be a SS doctor so he knew the language they were looking for. My husband got his 5-6 years ago but we had to hire a lawyer and give him a % of the back pay for his services. They don't ask for money up front and they won't take your case unless they have a pretty good feeling that they will win. Don't give up-get a lawyer. It is their job to try to save the gov't money.
But a friend of mine just 2-years ago didn't get a lawyer and he got his approval w/in 6 mos.for fibromyalgia w/o a lawyer. So who knows what the SS will do. I wouldn't have thought fibromyalgia was anything they would approve. It took both my husband and I 2 years to get approval. I would say he doesn't know much about MG- when I was having symptoms I couldn't even walk out to the barn to feed my animals w/o getting SOB.No way could I have worked with it. So take your MGA info to a lawyer, along with all the info from your Doctor that diagnosed you.

Don't let it discourage you. The one I was sent to was in a tiny closet, folding table, poor language skills, and mostly checked my range of motion and went over forms like I'd already filled out. Oh, and he kept trying to ask me if I had a scar ...took me ages to realize he was asking if I'd a thymectomy. I guess that was the only thing he knew of MG and didn't even know what it was called.

From what I understand even if the doctor mark you as disabled it makes no difference, someone in an office who gets the paperwork can just say no. Just part of the process.

SS almost always say no the first time. You will get a letter saying if you don't agree with their decision you have the right to an appeal. Follow the direction. You may be get turned down the second time. Then you go to a law court judge. Most people win then.
Here's the good part. They will pay you back from the day you first applied.
My best friend went through this a few years ago. I now know 2 more that went through the same.

Hi Charlie - you need to hire a Social Security law firm, to go to bat for you. There are many, but I used SSLG.com. They handled everything, I never had to leave the house. From the time I called SSLG - to receiving the first check - was 12-weeks.
No reputable SocSec law firm charges in advance, and their fee comes out of your settlement. You may also qualify, for back-payments.
Don't be discouraged. Just go get some quality help on your side!

Charlie, I had my hearing last Thursday. My attorney said things went very well. The judge requested documents showing my short term payments from my work.My attorney thinks she may pay all the way back to onset instead of date I filed. Good Luck Mike

Excuse me! It is listed on the SS paperwork that I looked at over a year ago as a disability. Good Grief.

Your Doc needs a Doctor to get his head examined lol because Mg is listed in the SSD guidelines as a debilitating illness / disease . As our friend snow belt said hiring an ssd attorney can save tou a lot of time and won't cost you money.

Getting denied the first time around is pretty common. Don't give up!!! Just keep filling out the paperwork and sending it in or get a lawyer to do it for you. It is likely you will eventually win, so hang in there!

So sorry. The last thing you need is added stress. Legal representation is definitely the way to go and be sure that every one of your doctors is aware that you are applying for disability. "They" can request records from any physician you see.
It's discouraging, I know, I lost my second appeal and am waiting for a hearing. Some states move along quicker than others.

I have not gone the ss route yet, but you need to hire a lawyer. binder and binder gets paid when u do and its expensive. SS will always turn you down at first. It takes about two years to win. I get my info from those I know who have gone that route.
