What an interesting thread,l would not say l have allergies,but l am much more sensitive to all sorts of stuff,light and some noise is quite predominant,an unexpected crash or bang will send me reeling,such an over the top reaction that can be embarassing ,its almost like my nervous system goes into shock. My sense of touch can be heightened as well.

I have always been sensitive to noise and have undiminished hearing at 65. When it comes to chemical pollution, I am like the canary in the mine, especially for cigarette smoke, general air pollution (not pollen), and perfumes. Not all cigarette brands are so intolerable--a friend said if she only smoked what I can tolerate, she could quit smoking. Detergents, soap, shampoo, etc in the house are unscented. These kind of sensitivities have been quite a social problem for me, somewhat alleviated by the more strict regulations regarding smoking in public places. But I still can't visit the town down the road with the chemical plant. I have allergic reactions and sensitivities to medications as well, but those things are avoidable. I wonder if those of us on immunosuppressants have noticed fewer troubles with these kinds of things. b.

This is interesting. I have been chemically sensoitive for years. When the electric compny put a new pole in the yard, the odor made me sick. A few of my friends noticed it. My husband the the electrical workers did not detect amny odor. Finally after i got all the info, where the pole came fom, what as on it, etc. they came when I was no home and put polyeithalene on it to mask the original odor. But thrn i semlled that but it was not as bad. now the poly stuff hs worn off and zi can detect the odor again. I do not go down the laundry/soap aisle at th store. Think i am okay with animals. But allergic to food,pharmaceuticals and chemical odors.

Im sensitive to hair dye,bright lights bleach, chlorine , And strong perfumes! :) thoughts are with u!

Thanks for the replies. So interesting. Jimmijane- interesting you posted that you also have heightened sensitivity to touch. My partner absolutely hated anyone touching him. He would say it would feel like his skin had bugs crawling. Never thought much about it. Just avoided a lot of touching. But he really hated just a tap on the leg or resting against him. Put together with the apparent sensitivity to light, smells and noise it seems really strange.

Looks like we all have sensitivities.
Maybe that is why our immune system kicks in. I just wish in the past others would have believed me. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten so bad. My husband always poo pooed when I would say "I am allergic to our animals" I should have demanded they go. It was always a fight.
Now I am so sensitive I can't function around cats or dogs.
Now I am just thankful I am not allergic to chemicals.
so now what about the dust. I cleaned for my grandson and got worse......do I hire a dust collector......For those of us who had to go to hospital.... I think we are the lucky ones.......now people listen to us.

I wish I had this knowledge and understanding when my partner was suffering. He would hate me vacuuming or if I banged the dishes while washing up. I used to go swimming a lot and sometimes would wait till I got home before showering. He would notice the chlorine smell as soon as I opened the door. Or if I used a new detergent or even most cleaning products they would give him a headache. I thought he was just a bit tense or whinging a lot (feel awful for him now). When he would ask me to stop vacuuming I would always bite back and say It has to be done. I think it is more than coincidental that so many people on here have the same issues.

yes yes yes my hearing and smell and taste senses are very sensitive not for light though as I have cataracts

I say my husband is going deaf.....and why do they have to make the commerical's so much louder then the show.. I was thinking kids were born louder these days!!! hahaha

I really notice the smells today while in the grocery store...seafood, fresh meat, laundry degergent...wow..
