Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Hope things improve soon. The first
Medicare will cover a hospital bed rental -- but you have to have a prescription from a doctor for it. When my Dad needed one, I found a used one on Craigslist that was motorized for around $100. It worked well and he could raise and lower various parts with a button.
Are you taking Mestinon? That can be the cause of secretions.
You can change to a full face cpap mask that will work with mouth breathing. It is worth trying one to see how it works. Again, you need a doctor's prescription to get it through Medicare.
Which really brings us to discussing all of this with your doctor as he or she is the gateway to alternate devices as well as to adjusting medications that might help.

Many of us have the same issues. Increased secretions is a side effect of many medications but the "usual suspect" for MG is mestinon or steroids. You can purchase a wedge for sleeping at an incline. They are made of lightweight foam and sometimes have come with moving parts to give you different angles in which to adjust the amount of incline. I got mine off of amazon. It works well for me to cut down on the night choking and coughing. As Russ mentioned, you can also get a full face mask for your cpap machine but some people feel more claustrophobic with that mask than just with the nose. I just wanted you to be aware of that part. Russ is also right about the bed and Medicare. I would look for one on Craig's List or other local sites such as the news paper. Thank you for the suggestions. I do have a wedge but seem to slide down off of it at night. Made an appointment to get a different mask for the CPAP. MG has a big fatigue element that goes with it and not currently being able to wear the CPAP may compound the problem. Mestinon which is taken at 480 mgs daily does cause some of the secretions but I wonder if lack of muscle strength does not also have an effect. For a few months there was a very thick mucus that would drain and upon getting up from a sleep I had to clear all of this by coughing and coughing it up and out. This is gross but true. Some of that has lessened. Anyway, thank you for all the help.

I absolutely agree with your muscles theory and secretions. I do not have the same force in my cough or in blowing my nose to push out the secretions. I have chronic sinus infections as a result. I have actually had chronic sinus infections since I was about 18 or 19 but it has worsened the older I get. I know that the weakness contributes to how you handle these secretions so be careful.

I also know what you mean about sliding off of the wedge. I fixed that by putting another wedge under my knees but I don't have a recliner so it would be just like you are in that still. I wonder if some type of non-slip fabric might help with that... I'll have to think on that for a bit. lol

I have to do the same thing each morning by coughing up everything in the morning. It is a nasty thing but completely necessary. I have also noticed that because of my weak face muscles the C-PAP mask doesn't fit my face as well as it could. I currently use a small mask but I'm wondering if I might need a child mask to reduce the surface area of it. I'm thinking the smallest surface possible would cut down on the leakage and I could get a better seal, but that's just a theory.
