Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. He passed away over two years ago. He was too young. He was a special person. He was probably considered a genius. He was a doctor that could've pursued any field of medicine. He ultimately chose dermatology. However, after college he invested in a company. After that he hired another good friend of mine to be involved and then sold his shares of the business. My good friend is now a manager with a career having been with the company from the beginning.
Back to what I was saying - My friend that passed away was a genius. He originally told me I was on the right path with Cellcept. He told me that is what he would do also.
Months before his passing, he called me about Rituxan. Well, actually rituximab. He was saying that Rituxan is now what I should do. He believed I would go into remission. He did agree that since I was doing so well on Cellcept to not stop. That was my first response. Doing well on Cellcept only. He believed remission is possible with Cellcept also.
Rituxan is an anti-cancer drug. So, that would be a benefit. There are always risks. Cancer is the ultimate risk in my opinion. I wish Rituxan came in pill form. I would consider it.
There are new treatments, potential vaccines etc in the works. Let's hope this all speeds up to become available soon and have affordable options for all of us. Some of us MG'ers will have to volunteer for the trials. Thank you to those that do!
Much love to all,
TJ
That is great feedback your father! I wonder how much age plays into it? Overall health. 72 years young is getting up there a little bit.
Thank you for sharing! I can't help but believe that Cellcept continues to be the safest drug we can take. Most effective? Not short term. Arguably the most effective overall. At least as far as getting off mestinon and stabilizing goes.
Best of luck!
