Problem urinating with G Myasthenia?

Sorry to ask so many questions but being new to GMG it is difficult to sort out if a problem is Myasthenia or something else.


I am having problems with swelling and fluid retention in my feet and legs.  I had gained 16 pounds in 3 weeks.  My PCP put me on Lastix for a week but that did not help.  Then I realized I had a reaction to Protonix that he had put me on 2 weeks prior for the problem I was having getting my food down to my stomach. I had swelling a redness of eyes and itching in my eyes, ears, scalp, tingling in my left arm and both legs, shortness of breath, both legs very swollen and trouble urinating.  We stopped the protonix and started me on Clariton. Then I went 26 hours without being able to urinate.  I was getting ready to go to ER but then started urinating.  That was 4 days ago and I am urinating more now but is painful and not normal amount. 


It has now been 20 days since I first noticed the swelling in my legs and it has not gotten any better at all.  The others symtons for the reaction to protonix have gone away except for the tingling and swelling in my legs, pain in my feet and not urinating normal. 


So I am now wondering if the urinating problem could be the GMG and that is causing the swelling and tingling.  That maybe I should try to contact my neuro.  Has any body had a urinating and swelling problem with Myasthenia?  I really need your help with this.  I have got to do something but do not know what to do.

I have some of your same symptoms . Especially esophagus problems and my stomach stops working properly . I have the blood shot eyes especially when I wake up . Also my blood pressure shoots up and down . My nuro says it’s not MG so I’m also trying to figure out if I have an additional condition along with MG . Seems to be autonomic related .

You definitely need to make sure your PCP is aware of your symptoms. Also it sounds to me as if you need to be tested for a urinary tract infection. Make sure a culture is done. I had a UTI for over a year that was negative on the urinalysis but very positive on the culture. A couple rounds of antibiotics cured the infection.

Out of curiosity, tmarevans -- do you have MG antibodies?

The Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (or LEMS) is also a rare form of Myasthenia Gravis. Here, a similar immune attack damages the nerve endings in both the voluntary and the ‘automatic’ muscles (such as blood vessels, bowels and bladder)."
