Would be very interesting to get a REAL answer to this question. Mine was "supposedly"brought on after a long bout with Lyme. is it connected? i am not so sure but its a theory...

I have observed in my time here that many of us have had Mono...I dunno lol

The immune system is very complicated and the myoneural junction is very complex. Mono, Lyme, cancer are very common, so are mycoplasma other infectious agents and environmental toxins. Most genetic material is common in a population. MG is rare and widespread and clustering even for most family groups is rare as well, although autoimmunity does seem to have familial predisposition. So it seems to me likely that MG is a system disease requiring genetic predisposition either through inheritance or toxin exposure and mutation with an infectious trigger. Maybe someday we can say if ypu have these particular genes and you get mono, you will be more likely to have MG.or these genes and you get Lyme and herbicide exposure you will have this variant of autoimmune myasthenia-- but I think that time is still a long way off. That is a good reason to fill out the registry, so we can begin to put some of the pieces of the puzzle together, and maybe eventually to find out why in people that share the same predisposition, some do NOT have the problems. b

I am one of a few here had Epstein Barr , my grandson had a bad case of mono last year , I just cringed.... I pray he does not get any of these crazy diseases over the years.

When I had an unexplained illness a few years back, Epstein Barr antibodies were discovered, although I don't remember having it.

Mine l believe was bought on by Thyroid issues but in hindsight l had some fatigue issues prior.But l did have mono as a teenager as well.

I always try to think of what i was doing around the time that i first has symptoms of MG. I think... although im not sure that the twinrix vaccine is what i was doing at the time so that might have been the cause.

I had a wicked case of Mono when I was a kid. The MG and Asthma showed up after a bout of the H1N1 back in '09, but the MG wasn't diagnosed until Nov'13.

Thanks for all the great comments I have been reading up on it the whole mono thing is a good angle. I have been exposed to a lot of chemicals in my 22 years in the service I always kind of thought I got my MG from that.

Hi mat, I have worked in a factory for 18 years. on and off I didnt feel well i would go to the doc. they found things that made on scent. so I would just suck it up and keep going. up until these last two years. 4 yesrs ago I did a half marthon. and1 1/2 ago I could lift 50to 60 pounds at work. we started using the chem. diff. now I spraying it out of a spray bottle with no protection.10 hours a day. I had sores up my nose for a whole year. I could hardly breated. Oct 2012 I was standing still an I fell at work. my leg felt paralzied. the guys picked me up and put me in the car drove me home. they told me they never though they would see me again. my legs were also in pain. I felt better the next day. That day was a turning point in my life i was never the same. I was no longer walking. jan.2013 i kept telling my pcp doc. I cant breath. I went from lifting heavy boxes at work. now I can't lift 8lb. without struggling. I had every test I think known to man. so I tell my pcp doc. its the chem. from work. she sends me to mayo. they tell me I can't go back to work without a mask. thats all they said. so I call the EPA they told me to call osah. osah found the guilty..among other things. at my witts end I try a another neuro doc. she test me for mg. Postive binding 5.25blood level. long story short. I put in the computer mg and the chem. I was working with. it said it causes myasthenic sydrome. so matt if you were in the service for 22 years Im no doc. but it is likely. the meds the had me on did nothing but aweful side effects. looking into getting new meds. when I say I cant walk a 80 year old walks faster than I do. how everybody says save your energy. I have no energy. I wake up bad and just get worst. sorry for how ling it was. I hope the IvIg get easier for you. Jen

I know they stopped giving ivig to me once and I got hives and then when I got phnonmia they tried again
