I am basma i thought my experience might help you since i have my thymectomy on the 18th of September 2016 that is less than a month ago
My thymus was normal but i had a relapse that was not responding to any treatment including mestinon, imuran, perdnisone 60 mg, IVIG and plasmapheresis
So the surgeons suggested removing my thymus and i said if it would help even by 1% I'm ready for it and i did
The first few days after surgery are not very easy but can managed by pain medications, for me the bone is healing very slowly since i am on prednisone 60 mg now and on rituximab infusion which suppresses my immunity but after saying all that i would say it was still worth having the surgery since it gives me hope of better life ahead
My advice to you is to go ahead and do it now if the doctors think you can tolerate surgery
Better than waiting and having to do it later when your lungs might not tolerate anesthesia and extubation might be difficult after surgery
I hope the information i gave you was of help

Here is one of them:
