nerve block

on 7-12 i wrote about a test i had but couldn't remember the name of------some said it was an emg--------there were no needles involved ----besides i'd had an emg years before for back problems---- i now know it to be a "nerve block test" which detects receptors that are incapable of firing because thay have become closed (blocked)-----anybody else out there have this test? sharon

Nerve blocks are not really MG treatments or tests, but rather pain treatments. WebMD says this about them:

"Nerve blocks are used to treat chronic pain when drugs or other treatments do not control pain or cause bad side effects. A test block is usually performed with local anesthetic. If you achieve good pain relief from the local anesthetic, your doctor may inject a nerve block, such as alcohol or phenol."

yes, yes,yes---------thank you so much ---------now i remember the name--------------it was a nerve conduction study------------as i recall the dr. called it a nerve conduction test------------thank you my friend, thank you--------------now has anybody out there had a nerve conduction study/test? huggables sharon

Sharon, they probably mean en EMG or SFEMG, ive had one, and didnt think it was that big of a deal, others have had them and called them torture... it all depends...

torture for me -- but I had a spur pinch off my spinal cord when I had it . Mine was not MG related

Sharon , I had this test and as Maureen said it wasn't a big deal however we being the snowflakes that we are some of us have had reacted differently.

my understanding is that the nerve conduction study *is* an EMG. It's an SF (single fiber) EMB when the long wire/needle is involved. I've had 2, and boy--they were not my favorite experiences of all time!
