About 10 years ago I was visiting some friends when a couple I had never met came over. We got to chatting about our pets. Mike started telling everyone what a terrible ordeal he had gone through with his dog Leo. He started telling us how his dog had a disease called, Mystastenious Gravi. I asked if he meant Myasthenia Gravis. He gave me an odd look and said, No, I think its Mystastenious Gravi. I told him that its an autoimmune neurological muscle disorder and its pronounced Myasthenia Gravis. Then I asked him if he was on any medication for it. He told me he was on mestinonin. At this point I really started laughing and corrected him on the pronunciation of mestinon. He looked at me with a puzzled expression and asked, Are you a doctor or something? While laughing I said, No, I have Myasthenia! Then he really looked confused as he asked, A dog disease??? My longtime friend Ed started cracking up as did I. I explained to him that it isnt a dog disease and that I had never heard of a dog with it. As a matter of fact I had never met another person with it. Over the next hour or so he asked me a ton of questions about the disorder and I answered his questions the best that I could. He and his wife Trish invited me over for a barbeque and to meet Leo. I cant explain it, but I had an instant connection with that dog. I think he could tell that I got what he was going through or something. He became my little Myasthenia buddy. Mike and Trish have become two of my closest friends over the years. Leo passed away about a year or two ago. He lived to be 14 I think. Taking mestinon every day.
