I went to the University Neurologist today and after two years of everyone telling me I had MG and all the medicines I am on that changed today. A lot of my symptoms tell them MG but with nothing showing in my blood they are not sure now so they want to do a Muscle Biopsy. Was wanting to find out if anyone has been through this.
I am not gripping about what is going on I am very sure they are trying very hard just wanted to know has anyone had this done with any success of them finding anything.

Long time no chat! I haven't heard too much about muscle biopsies to dx mg, but who knows.
I had a muscle biopsy this year. They took tissue from my shoulder and thigh. At the time I was undiagnosed, and in my case the biopsy didn't help us. I was later diagnosed with undifferentiated connective tissue disease.
The bx (as they call it) was painful for me because I didn't respond to the iv pain meds. Mine was done in surgery using something short if general, but I don't remember it. I had to stay overnight to get the pain under control.
Question it if they say they'll do it in the docs office.
I have a strong positive response to mestinon, partial ptosis, but clean mg bloodwork and mostly normal emgs.

I had 8 biopsies done, two on each arm and leg.
The biopsies were done - to look for nerve-damage.
I don't know - how useful biopsies are - in diagnosing MG.
But the biopsies done on me?
Were used to diagnose:
''Neuropathy, including small-fiber nerve damage''.
(... it's all auto-immune crap ...)
I have been on 60mg Prednisone daily, for much of the last year.
Now tapered down to 20 mg daily and holding.
(...while I also attempt a taper of weekly IVIG ...)
I'm very glad - to be down to 20mg Prednisone.
At 60mg?
It was really easy - to get me irritated.
Which didn't help the MG - not at all.

When it comes to biopsy procedures, think of it this way: Are you comfortable with someone opening up your body's protective covering in a doc's office? It's a fair size incision, as are the pieces they take out. I say safer to do in some kind of a procedure setting.
Oh and one more thing....the biopsy is effective on sites that haven't been EMG'd to heck.
