Good luck ! A new normal isn't always the worst thing. You learn to pick the things most important to you and who to conserve energy. You find new different way sd to enjoy life. Remember to enjoy vs missing what you can't do now! I hope Dr is a good fit for you.

I don't want to burst any joyous feeling for you, but EMGs are rarely the last word. Don't think if the EMG says you don't have MG, that you don't have MG. If it says you do, great! Because then you get treament and it is way better than some of the other possibilities, but don't stop looking for MG if it says no.

mw40love-My joyous feeling has burst! My EMG shows I do not have MG. In fact even before the Dr. did the test he stated that I did not have MG. As he walked in the room to begin the test my left eye is completely shut. He also had me go to the lab for blood work (9 vials). I am not to make another appointment. He doesn't anticipate any problems with the blood work. I do not know where to go from here. I have these symptoms but no answers.....

Negative tests for MG should be a celebration, as those of us who have MG would say. Of course, many of us would be somewhat doubtful about that as an absolute truth, as MG can be difficult to discern.

Of course that doesn't help when you don't know what is wrong, however ruling out something miserable can give us hope you have something easier to treat and live with. Now if only you can find out what is wrong--it seems that with 9 vials of blood it looks like as Jerry Lee might have said "there's a whole lot a testing goin on"''

Keep hope lots of us have negative emgs,negative labs and a Dr who offers no explanation.I went to university hospital to neuro-opth on advice of neuro . He had NO doubt that it was mg (negative labs) but I had to go to special care hosp that is for longterm muscle, breathing, etc. University emg Dr was on sick leave. Dr at other hospital head of mda clinic said absolutely not mg,. Luckily for me university dr scoffed at that. Many Mgers here know your frustration as alot of rare disease patients do. Keep the faith and try to keep positive! I'll say one for you as all mgers especially kids!!!

I had a very similar experience. Do not give up. An EMG and bloodwork can only tell you if you have MG, not that you don't. It was not until I absolutely insisted that they put me on Mestinon and it made me 100% improved, would they hear my insistence on a single fiber emg, which has been done, and did show MG. they were all wrong and I was right. Please don't give up. Insist on a single fiber emg. Never trust a doctor who tells you you don't have something before he does the test. The way I absolutely insisted they put me on Mestinon was by ordering some without a scrip from Canada. I asked them, do you want to be in charge of this trial or should I go it alone? As for the well meaning and kind hearted people on this forum who say you should rejoice that you don't have it, don't listen to them either. They don't understand the limbo you are in and the other choices you have - like if it's not MG, is it ALS or some horrible deadly myopathy? Don't give up. Change neurologists. Find a teaching university in your area and ask for their help. And again, don't give up.

10% of MGers have no antibodies and no bad EMG results. 10% is A LOT! PS. For several months, before I changed neurologists, I was labeled as someone with a "conversion disorder" read that as mental health issue, because it was later discovered that I had very curable breast cancer. How they thought I would get a conversion illness 1 year before the converted illness is beyond me. I must be quite prescient. Anyway, I would not have survived the ill informed doctors without this forum. I would tell you to read Cloe Atkins' "My Imaginary Illness" but don,t. It is too depressing.

This site is great for people that are negative. They aren't testing for everything they need to in some cases. I wish I could give you some mestinon just so you could try it. If Mestinon works, I think that MG would pretty much be the only Dx. Because they can't read that in a book, some doctors refuse to Dx.
