Welcome to the group! I hope your recovery from your thymectomy is going well. I was in my early 60's when I had mine, and it seemed to have taken me a bit longer than most people to recover. Nevertheless, I am glad I had my thymus removed.

I have not had my thymus removed to date. I am seeing a cariacthoracic surgeon in two weeks. Is this major surgery, needle aspiration? How long is the hospital stay and the recovery? Thank you. Mary

Hi Petsbringjoy. Your expected recovery time from a thymectomy depends on a lot of variables, the most important of which is the type of thymectomy -- open chest or minimally invasive robotic. I was in my early 60s when I had the robotic surgery, and my recovery time was about a month because I had some unusual complications. One of my neighbors, a man in his twenties, had a very short recovery time from the robotic thymectomy -- a week or two.

This is ridiculous, but one of the things I found most difficult. about the process was that on account of where my incisions were located, I couldn't wear my usual bra afterwards. I bought a couple of post surgery bras, but they don't offer much support.
