Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Be well,
When I was at my worst, I was pleasantly surprised that there is a lot of the world setup to make things easier for people with problems. A handicap parking place, the scooters, and of course, going shopping in the mornings when things were quiet and a stop for coffee and a little shopping made me feel human again. Going slowly and timing things to avoid crowds helps. Doing it on my own made me feel some independence.
Of course, my double vision and eye focus problems made driving more exciting for me and others on the road ;-)
Go for it!
I just have one question for you: Once you get home with your groceries, HOW will you get them into the house so they don't freeze or go bad in the car? Like Bamboolilly said, you have been through sooooooooooo much!!! Do you think it is wise to take on such an adventure before you have had your feet on the ground for a bit longer, Linda?
Hugs, and hopes for safe adventuring!

As for getting things in after the trip, as I have done for a while now, I arrange all the perishables in one or two bags and bring them in, then depending on mY strength level, either make trips back for the non perishables later or even leave them in the car over night.
I guess because of my stubbornly independent nature, I would rather at least try to do this myself. If it doesn't work out, I have numbers for people I could call to help me. Keep in mind, it is a huge stretch for me even to consider using a motorized cart!
Please be careful with your precious little self... even though you must be stir crazy from being cooped up for so long!

Be well,
Well, I made it. And it was not as bad as I thought it would be. In the past I would have just not gotten a lot of things on my list because it was too far to walk to get them. I was able to get almost everything on my list. The hardest part was negotiating around the other shoppers, but it was quite busy there today. I think next time I will try for a little less busy time. That little motorized cart made all the difference!
Kudos to you for trying the scooter, glad it worked so well for you. It's really hard to use something like that the first time, then you realize it helps so much you just don't care. I use my purple rollator to get around and people jump out of the way like I'm going to run them over, I love it :D I can't do the scooter because it is hard on my arms and trunk, but I'd probably scare everyone anyhow so it's just as well.
I'm like you, not wanting help, I was just born wired that way. It's always a better feeling to figure out how to do things on our own. But... asking a friend or neighbor to help can make them feel pretty awesome too, people like to help.
When I was doing better and could shop a little, I'd stick to one side of the store, then hit the other side on the next trip. And I've got a wheeled cart to bring stuff in from the car. And it doesn't matter if two days later you have to go out to the car to get your cereal for breakfast.
I have been so symptomatic ever since this morning it felt like I was going into crises I get prickly all over then I know my breathing is compromised. Took extra mestinon resting aircon is on because the temperature is 40degrees Celsius here in my town in South Africa today. Starting to feel much better
I am very fortunate my husband does the grocery shopping now while I sit down and have a cappuucino.Occasionally I will walk around with him albeit very very slowly
I have a mobility scooter I use if it is any distance I will be taking it on our cruise. It is available in the USA.and is called travel scoot It has been my safety net at times. It cqn fold up into a travel bag and be taken on the plane but the lithium battery has to be carried in your hand luggage.itm isn expensive but well worth the cast. It enables me to go down the the recreation centre at our village. You will find it on the web.
