When I would fall in public I still wasn't diagnosed so I was very confused to what was happening. I would brush it off as nothing. The last time I fell I was walking down a hill with my friends, they asked me what happened and I just told them that I tripped even though I didn't.

I understand how you're feeling. It can get really frustrating especially when people don't understand. We just really need to be strong for ourselves.

I find my strength for myself wains some when I'm reduced to a non-mobile state. Everyone has that panic reaction it seems, and I'm not sure why. I find more often then not people see you being sick, and they freak out because they don't know what to do. It only escalates an already delicate and upsetting situation. Regardless, I asked a friend for help, and she came over, and helped get me inside. So at least I'm safe and sound, and intending on resting up. Maybe my body will be nice, and let me go to another church tomorrow. :)

I fell across the street from my house at night. I did not have my cell phone. I couldn't get up and no one was outside. My next door neighbor came home. She did not see me, I asked her to get my wife. She said she would help. I weigh 275 and she could not have been more that 115. She helped me up and I went home. It was definitely my lowest low. My wife is my support and I could not deal with this without her.

One way to look at it.....You are a reminder to people of how lucky they are that they can walk.

Unfortunately you are over doing it. I always get worse in the spring.
Rest my friend....A full day on the couch.....find a good movie.....
and rest up.

And think of how you would feel if someone fell. It is ok.

Over the years, through the ups and downs, I learned to use some basic mobility aids, cane, walker, rolling walker.
They all helped to keep me upright, or get me to a place of safety.
Your post reminds me how useful they really were, avoiding falls many times.
It is a frustrating thing, remembering to balance what you want to do, against what you can do.
Does Mestinon help you, do you take it? Maybe the Neuro can help, with dosages? I could never take Mestinon, due to side effects, go figure. But it's a valuable med for many here, helping many people.

Mine is a cheapie Trac Phone, costs me an average of $5 a month. It's always with me, even just being in the yard.

One too many falls in public made me invest (if I can call $9 an "investment") in a good cane! Yes, I got some odd looks for that, too, but it sure helped me get around without falling and hurting myself, and people gave me the space I needed to navigate around them, and I no longer got judgmental looks for taking the elevator! I haven't had to use my cane for a while now after thymectomy, but I keep it just in case.

You might check out this website and analyze why you think accepting help is wrong for you. Accepting and giving help is part of what makes a society function.

I use a walker inside and the last few days I've honestly needed it again. I had been doing pretty well as of late, but I think I'm exacerbating my symptoms because I've been trying to work out at the gym from time to time. It is hard work, and it does leave me tired and drained, but maybe it is finally catching up to me. I have this silly notion that I'm going to conquer and beat this disease, and I know that isn't how it works. But I feel like my inaction is part of the problem too, so trying what I can.

Snow, I have the same problem as you sadly with Mestinon. It doesn't react well with me, and honestly made me not want to take it. I got enough odd vision as it is, and I'm used to that. It getting worse made it so I couldn't see right at all, and was more of a danger then a help. Not for the little strength it gave me. IVIG is the only thing that worked for me, and it worked great, but medicare won't cover it unless I'm dying, so yea, joy.

Rhanson, I struggle with help because of who I am as a person. I get attached to people who help, and honestly the person I asked to help me last night, it sort of happened. I'm trying to disconnect that in myself, but that is a separate thing all together. I don't like 911, or emergency staff, because around here they make a big scene. Cops, ambulances, firetrucks, all on my block. Last time I did, we had 2 cops, 1 ambulance, and 2 fire trucks show up, lights going, and when I asked if they could kill the lights as I felt embarrassed, they told me to deal with it, it is protocol. So yea, that is why I fought the two ladies on doing it. My neighbors are gabby kind of people, and I've heard whispers they think I'm a weird freak as it is, I don't need anymore bad press as it were.

I remember my first time i fell in public. Man, it was awful and it is very embarrassing. It's important to know your limits and keep crutches, a walker and/or people with you to help you out if needed. I was very stubborn and learned the hard way and after a while you try to figure out different ways to control your fall (hopefully you don't have to be in that situation a lot to try to figure that part out). Also, try not to let it put too much stress on you. The more you stress, the weaker it will make you and you will be prone to fall more. When you're in a safe place, practice walking around to know how far you can actually go before you need to rest. As men, sometimes we are proud and hard headed. You're not over reacting. There will be some times where you feel like nobody understands. When you feel like that, the important thing is to talk to people who have been there. It's common to feel useless because you can't control regular muscle functions. This forum has helped me a lot, because people understand and live with MG everyday like you do, so we won't give you a puzzled look or down play it. I've been battling MG since summer of 06. Early on, you feel useless and panic a lot. Just know that you have support here. The community is always willing support and exchange tips to ask your doctors.
