Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Since eye lenses are focused by eye muscles bending the lens, any improvement in their function should make focusing better. We know that prednisone helps the double vision as those muscles get better function. I think that many of us have had MG longer than our diagnosis, and we have adjusted to it, maybe at a milder level, and when prednisone works problems we were mostly unaware of get better.
I did notice when MG was worst (early on), I had trouble focusing and ended up with different prescription glasses several times as I tried to see better. That did go away with prednisone, so looking back, it was likely MG symptoms.
I looked at an old video of me looking for morel mushrooms before I was diagnosed. I was walking through the woods, holding the camera, picking morels, and although I was idling along, my heavy breathing comes through on the audio. After 6 months on prednisone, that breathing problem was vastly improved and I no longer had to idle along in my walks. The prednisone solved a problem that I thought was related to being out of shape.
Hope your eyes continue to improve. After my cataract operations, I am pleased to only have to wear reading glasses, those $3 pairs at the discount store.
Good Luck
