Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
"On a physical level, cannabis helps relax muscles"

Rerlaxing muscles is normally not good for MG....
Unless we were having severe spasms from the Medications, marijuana doesn't seem like such a good idea. I smoked pot for 25 yrs prior to MG onset(haven't touched it for 7-9 mos). I have tried to get doctors to say it was a good idea or even find information on the web regarding this. You are the first Myasthenic? that I have ever heard from mentioning this. You started this group today, so you are new. I would love to hear some other real experiences, IF you are serious.
Would love to hear from anyone about marijuana pot brownies, smoking it, whatever.
Peace

went into critical or crisis in feburary, 29 days in ICU, 18 days with vent tube, feeding tube etc., went into hospital weighing 235 lbs, came out at 164lbs. So my brother who has lymphoma cancer handed me a 2inch by2inch square brownie and said to try it, stuck it in my freezer.
was having breathing problems, took a mestinon, had to use nebulizer
just a very down day. 60mg prednisone daily gives me an appetite, especially for something sweet, opened the freezer, broke that brownie in half and ate it. might sound weird but energy level seemed to pick up, my eyes got red, and i was in a pretty good mood. Was able to sleep good, didnt pay much attention to the next day (delayed side effects). i now weigh 200 lbs, i walk with my daughters, i dont need physical therapy, i've probably eaten 3 or 4 more brownies , and find no harm. but thats me. i'm doing 1000mg cellcept daily, 240 mg mestinon daily, the 60mg prednisone and a host of other pills to work with each other. im 59 yo, and smoked or ate pot for a long time, like i said, this is how it affects me. thanks for being there
There may come a day again when I dapple with pot again, but anxiety is a concern for me also. 25 yrs of daily use can have that affect..Still checking into it, but I would love to hear from others also about this.
I have an will continue to try to avoid any other drugs kike prednisone etc..

I hope you don't mind me chiming in here, as I do find this conversation quite interesting. I would like to give my opinion. First, I would have concerns about pot but only because I seem to have difficulty breathing as it is (I know smoking pot is way more damaging to lungs than cigarrettes, physiologically speaking). As for potbrownies...the THC is more readily absorbed in the lungs. It will take longer to get high when consumed orally. You would have to consume quite a bit to reach that stoned state of experiencing that calm, relaxed feeling. which for having myasthenia, I would think you would want to avoid. It is a very delicate balance you would have to maintain to be sure you are in the buzz or high zones and not the stoned. Considering there is no way to truely judge that, each individual will be different as well as things that may alter absorption. How much THC in the liver actually metabolized and how much is actually stored in the fat cells? I am not against it, as I feel some patients can greatly benefit from it (especially those with bone cancer, etc). However, I feel individuals with mg are taking a bit of a risk if not monitored properly. Not to mention how will the pharmocology of marijuana mesh with that of cellcept? These are just some things to think about. I am very happy you found something that works for you.
