They have a patient protection program that allows us to only pay 20% of the cost of the test. Looks like we will have to go that route.

Once Athena receives the lab specimen they will contact the patient to discuss the patient protection program. They will tell you that if you sign the plan, regardless of whether your insurance covers the costs you will only be responsible for 20% or $500.00 (which ever is less).
They will require that payment up front but if your insurance plan covers more than the 20% or $500.00 you will be reimbursed the difference.
This can take a week or more to facilitate the process so don't expect your results back right away. They will have to mail you the PPP agreement, you have to sign it and snail-mail it back with your method of payment. They will process the test once they receive payment and forward the results to your doctor.
I hope this helps. I wish that there were others that did this testing because Athena doesn't have the best costumer service in my experience. Good luck to you and best wishes for getting some answers.
