I generally assume my doctors know what they are doing, and although I usually do some internet searching too, I follow their advice. I do ask them what they expect the treatment will do, what is the likelihood of it helping and the problems that may arise and if there are alternatives. Cortisone shots do help folks, as my father got one about every 6 months for a bad knee and it helped for many years before eventual knee replacement fixed it permanently.
My wife had severe back pains due to disk problems and other deterioration. The treatment was to first try cortisone shots with the hope that they would work. When they didn't help, she had surgery. Medicare protocols expect that one starts with cortisone shots and only move towards surgery if that doesn't work. Her surgery relieved the pain of pinched spinal cord but left her permanently weaker. So it would have been good if the shot would have worked.
I think I would take my doctor''s advice and give it a try. Life is too short to live with pain if there may be a simple solution to help.
Good Luck

sorry to hear your troubles with your hip,
i agree with russ, since predinisone is the drug of choice for infections snd inflamations. that your dose maybe to low.
generally speacking, doctors would start with 20 or 25 mgs, for a month then reduce to 5 and see how you are doing
it is better than the shoots has in my book for me they where not up to par, they have the tendency to last anywhere from 3 to 5 days, then the pain returns
talk to your doctor and decide then for yourself if you want to go that way.
it should help.
best of luck Andre
