Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
Then I order very cheap glasses online (zennioptical) and change them as my eyes change. The refractions cost me about $40 each-- just have my doctor do the lens testing, not the rest of the eye exam (have that yearly). My insurance covered part of this cost.
For $10 or if I am fussy, $25 I get a new pair of glasses. I find that as my eyes deteriorate during the day, switching glasses is quite helpful. I work out some of the special glasses prescriptions with my eye doctor so we can try things--including a double vision lens correction early on (didn't really work as my eyes were to variable).
I also set my computer to have much larger text and fool around with the contrast/background etc. There are "accessibility' type settings to help make things more readable.
Now with prednisone putting most of my eye problems into remission, I am mostly OK again, but I do try to look up every 10 minutes and look out at a distance for a minute or so -- out the window. By the way, I have been very happy with the zennioptical route for cheap -- but decent eyeglasses--$6 and up and a few weeks ago two for the price of 1 deal. I adjust them myself for my nose and fit--something that having worn glasses for 55 years and bent the heck out of most of them many times, I have learned to be quite easy to do when you have cheap glasses you don't worry about breaking!
I was started on prednisone and went up to 30 MG. As I tapered down the left eye open and both were good for a year.
I was down to 17 1/2 mg and had a major upset at work. Co worker called me a bad name and it really upset me. Currently I am at 25 mg and will go up to 30mg tomorrow with my Doctor's blessing.
Scared to say I don't have double vision for fear of getting it.
Rest helps.
Russ, Thank You for sharing your "buyers guide". I know I'm due for an eye exam but have been reluctant due to the cost.
Sami, I'm sorry you were subject to the ignorance of a co-worker. As I type, I have seen two of you and it's a lovely sight indeed!
Larissa ;)
Thanks to all for the post and information.
