Cataracs and Myasthenia

Excuse the spelling.  I have myasthenia.  It started with the eyes.  I was diagnosed in October of 2015.  I have been on prednisone since then.  I currently take 15 mg daily.  I was just told that I cannot drive because of the cataracs.  I was told that the prednisone could have caused the cataracs.  I cannot see anything but a blurr from 15 feet.



I get IVIG infusion every four weeks for 5 days straight.  I also take IMURAN 150 mg daily.  The imuran took almost a year to kick in.  The mestinon did not work for me.  I have been getting the infusions since January 2016 and there is no end in sight.  I feel pretty good about where is am right now, although I am concerned about the catarac operation.


Anyone else having similar issues?

High doses of prednisone pushed my cataracts from minor to major in a year. I had the operation on one eye last December and the other in January. The actual operation lasted about 15 minutes and the next day I could see almost normally. It was really a minor deal, although I always recommend you go to someplace where they do lots of these operations and have experience with folks with other conditions like MG. I did it at Rochester, MN Mayo Clinic. It was easy to schedule and Medicare covers most of the cost (although I chose a $1000 added astigmatism correction in my new lenses so I wouldn't have to wear any glasses). I can see clearly now!

Good Luck. It is a very simple and easy operation, and you should have no problems even with MG.
