Is anyone taking this beta blocker? If so can you tell me what side effects you've had? My gp prescribed it today but after reading the side effects I'm not sure i want to take it. Urggg!!

Went on a beta blocker years ago and within 2 months had a severe exacerbation of MG where I could not walk up stairs. I could not breathe. Check to make sure this class of drugs is not contraindicated with MG. This class is one of the most effective antihypertensives unfortunately a lot of us cannot take it.

I TAKE Metoprolol, FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE PLUS OTHER HEART BENEFITS..I THINK ACCORDING TO THE MG WEB SITE. A DRUG ENDING WITH LOL CAN AFFECT MG,,,,BUT I HAVE NO APPARENT MG WORSENING SIDE AFFECTS WITH IT. AT LEAST WITH A LOW DOSE OF 50 -75 MG A DAY,,,I HAVE TAKEN 150 MG OF IT A DAY AND IT DOES MAKE MY MG SOMEWHAT WORSE....BUT WITH A HEART CONDITION I REALLY HAVE TO TAKE IT. BUT IT IS SAFE FOR ME TO SAY THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY EFFECT ON MY MG AT THE LOWER DOSES..

The beta blockers are relatively contraindicated in MG. I am not familiar with the one you are taking. Atenolol is supposed to be the "least contraindicated." Metoprolol similarly so. (You can check the medications and myasthenia link in the links group or go to myasthenia.org.

Like Terry, I have taken metropolol for a number of years (back on after problems with other types of antihypertensives). I have never noticed a change in my MG associated with this drug and it provides the best control of my very volatile hypertension.

The calcium channel blockers were for me the very worse in terms of poor control and side effects (given before MG diagnosis). They are also on the list of contraindicated drugs.

If I remember correctly, you have some asthma and that would also need to be considered. Hope all goes well with whatever you take! b.

I have read were it says that Beta Blockers excerbate MG. I have never taken them. You should be careful. Cabbage7
