Hi there...I have not had a dental implant but have to get a colonoscopy next week and am very apprehensive about that so called my neuro and asked what I should do to prepare better for it.. I would call your neuro and ask him or her before getting...I know mine said to make sure I took mestinon before and let them there know exactly what I have and the pills I take etc etc....So dont know if that helps but I know before i do any procedures I check with neuro and make a list of all things I want to tell them before I do it...maybe someone else here has had the implant and will be of more help but thats my best advice and hope all goes well...jacki

I don't think the autoimmune suppressants are as much to watch as drugs given at procedure and antibiotics after.

I haven't had an implant, but have had two other surgical procedures in the last 8 weeks. My neuro said what Ann noted....which is go ahead with the procedures but to watch the antibiotics very carefully. I'd also add to be sure not to underestimate the amount of recovery time you'll need. Rest more than they tell you to, and don't try to rush back to anything resembling normal activity.

i had implant 6 mos after MG diagnosis. I was given Amoxiclav antibiotic with no problems. I was on mestinon and prednisone at the time. The versid ( anesthia) made my arms and legs weak. Slept a few hours after. Fortunately had someone drive me home. Overall I did fine.
I would def recommend antibiotics right before and briefly afterwards.

2 yrs later I had a colonoscopy with Versid and slept 23 hrs afterward but did ok. So i guess my tolerance for Versid is decreasing, but antibiotics ok. Or it could of been that I had an infection in my intestines that made me react more to the med.....body/muscles worn out.

Hi bear - don't have the dental work done, until your Neuro has approved all antibiotics, and all anesthetics - plus your overall condition. This simple thing, can make all the difference.

When my MG was milder, both with swallowing and with overall weakness? I had some crown work done, and it all went okay, only novacaine, in the very front. In the last 2 years? I would never have been able to tolerate dental work. So a lot depends on your overall symptoms, at the time.
