I know now not to take that! It wasn't on my drug list to avoid either.
Everyone is different so it might be ok for you.
There is no antibiotic called z pack--The antibiotic is azithromycin and one which is known to cause severe exacerbation of MG.
Bear,
Please check the lists in the links group and be sure to have your list when you go to any of your doctors. Although some of the antibiotics are "only" use with caution almost all have the potential of causing problems, the most concerning ones at this time ( as in being frequently used and known for trouble ) are the one Sue took and the flouroquinones (Cipro). That doesn't mean you shouldn't take any antibiotics, but it is not a casual decision- be sure they are indicated--the type of infection known and the susceptibility to the drug prescribed. In other words, if you have a strep throat, not a viral sore throat) I think all strep is still sensitive to penicillin and that is one drug we can take ( if we are not allergic). What you don't want is to go in with a urinary tract infection and have them give you Cipro without a culture to see if you can be treated with a less dangerous drug. When you are treated with antibiotics without a culture, if you don't get better, you may not know what you have and what is likely to work. You would think that if you are still sick, there could be a culture then, but it doesn't always work that way. Of course having the infection in the first place is pretty sure to make your MG worse. b.
Make sure your neuro knows and proceed cautiously. If the med works it is better than having a bad infection that can cause even more problems. the bronchitis was really dragging me down..hard to breathe and very weak all over.
