Geez Frank, I'm sorry! Can you rent it out to someone? If you can't get around the stairs, I really think you'd be better off finding something else to live in with everything on one level and no stairs. Any other options for you?

I talked to my house bank lets say I buy a ranch house easier come and go then rent condo I have to have enough money per month to cover both I cant use the rent as income to get another loan. So that not happening. I tried to refi house to lower payment months ago so be better to rent but since upside down wont do it. err. I talked to my bank I been with for 20 years They said have wife buy home her name and short sell condo. The good part condo only my name so I can maybe be like look my income is 25% of what was and now I have MS I cant pay?

Just an idea for now and it's not a perminant fix but I know that now have those Stair lifts ... It's a chair they install on some kind of frame and it goes up and down the stairs for you .. I think they run a little over a grand but if you have Medicare/caid they might be able to assist you? Just an idea!! Here's a Link to one of the websites so that you can see wht I'm talking about.. Chronic Baby - I think that is the ticket. You can rent them by the month (my friend did this when her mom was in rehab and came to stay with her and could not walk). THey don't permanently install it but you pay a monthly fee and when the market changes (and God willing it will) you can uninstall it and sell this place and move on. I am sure Medicaid will aid in the monthly payment and if not contact the MSAA. They do a lot of this. what about a ramp build up the stairs or taking them out and putting in a ramp. Ruritans do this for free if you ask and then perhaps if you have a chair or walker or with assistance it is easier to go up and down. I really don't like them but contact the NMSS and ask them what they can do for you. Go to the TV station and tell the Help Team (every TV station has one) and maybe they can come up with a fix or at least air your story and someone can come up wiwth a suggestion or some help. You should not have to be housebound and certainly no crawling! Good luck and just keep trying someone out there is bound to have a good idea and the cash to back it up.

Frank, I lived in a place that I was renting before I was diagnosed and it had a flight of stairs and yes, I fell down that flight of stairs. :(

Finally, I managed to find a house via the RURAL HOUSING PROGRAM which is administered by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

I was on their waiting list for a long time and finally my name came up for a house.

I looked at a few different places (all had stairs) and finally a small house came up that has no stairs near it. It is a small house, highly energy efficient.

Needless to say, we got the house as my husband is at veteran and being I am totally disabled, it was a double star for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to place a veteran and a disabled person in a home.

I like my home just fine and I paid it off with an inheritance I received a number of years ago when my parents passed away.

The cost to live here is about $1500.00 a years (property taxes and insurance). That is a lot cheaper than renting and I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of the condo and into a place you can get in and out of safely.

God always does me right, get MS well then Im here for our boys. I have an amazing wife and we always get by. What is bad Im ok when im in a cold house. I can kind of walk, the problem is once in stair well it is hot as hell. Then the walking goes to sh.. . One of those lift things I do think it fit. The are isnt big were the stair case is. Plus the condo association wont let me change stuff in common area. It be nice to be in a ranch with a step or two then I be in the nice cool house. It will all work out always does.

Talk to your bank. They may have a solution or alternative.

I talked to my bank bank I have been with for 17 years. they said short sale and have wife get new home loan.My parents saidd talk to their realitor too. I was laid off from my job pre ms 3 years ago and try to refi with house bank. I tried again talking to them when this ms stuff happened but they wont help.Figured refi lower payment make it rent able but they wont causeworth less then what I owe. They only care about the money.

I say do short sale or walk away. Be happy for the time you spent there and find a ranch to rent in wife's name and live happily ever after. Everyone has come up with great ideas but it seems you shoot each and every one of them down. Be proactive, put the house on the market but move out to a ranch or one story dwelling where you will feel more comfortable.

@ wvu2 see now thats what Im talking about. Its just my head spinning with everything. I want out cause walking stuff. Wife wants out cause that and a family of four in a condo a no go. Was fine when they were babies but when pre teen not good. I tried to sell before was going to build. a house but was laid off. Then market went to crap. When ms was dx I wanted to refi so could rent condo to move into a ranch or something. Another no go bank just want money. I tried to pay condo down faster but when I called bank bank they said just tossing money in garbage cause it seems short sale best way to go. I like that "confortable", forgot what thatblike. :-)
