Actually my mother went thru this not to long ago and the dr. told her that sometimes it happens as we get older. I know, not a nice thought! But it just might be normal. (I think I have forgotten the definition of that word these days)

Sherie, I'm really glad you started this discussion. My voice box has been doing this alot lately, ever since my new/ worsening symptoms have started. At first I just thought it was from the cold that I had, or from my sinus/allergy problems, but I have continued to experience this periodically since then. My voice starts going deeper & deeper and then starts to "go away", like with laryngitis, then will go back to normal several days later. Weird hugh!!?? I'm anxious to hear if anyone else experiences this. Let me know if yours continues! TTYL ;)

I looked this up ,, i have been having problems with my speech as well, some days it sounds like i have a nasty cold,, but that is the only symptom and then a couple of days later its gone...

What Types of Speech Problems Do People With MS Experience?
One pattern of speech that is commonly associated with MS is called "scanning" speech. This type of speech produces speech in which the normal "melody" or speech pattern is disrupted, with abnormally long pauses between words or individual syllables of words.

People with MS may also slur words. This is usually the result of weak tongue, lip, and mouth muscles. Other speech problems include explosive dysarthrias, or nasal speech, which sounds as though the person has a cold or nasal obstruction

i don't think you nuts at all. i use to sing in a choir. i was a high soprano then as my symptom got worse i had hard time swallowing food and my voice changed. i can't even sing like i used to and i had to give it up.

My voice started going haywire Dec. 7/04 - it wasn't until I started using marijuana for pain/spasticity that it came back. Every time I stopped using it my voice would be useless. I was sceptical at first that it was the marijuana that was helping so I went through a number of 3-4 month terms when I didn't use it. I'd always go back to a slur that morphed into a garble. The effort to even get a few words out felt as if I had just run ten miles.

The worst part of this happening was the effect on my self esteem. I always felt myself to be fairly articulate and well spoken. It was devastating listening to myself - barely able to get a few words out and not knowing for sure if I was understood. During these times I stopped going out unless absolutely necessary, never answered a phone and virutally talked to no one but my husband & daughter. I'm embarrassed to admit that I even avoided my sister's long distance calls - it was too painful emotionally for me at times knowing how upsetting this was for her - I could hear it in her voice.

Since Oct. 06 I've been using on a fairly steady basis however on the few times I've run out my voice is useless again.

2nd neuro had my throat checked to make sure that there was nothing structurally amiss, no polyps, etc. She also is against me using however has offered no alternative.

I've definately expierenced voice change. At first, I also thought maybe just a cold or something. Then I started having problems with chocking on food and drinks. These are definately symptoms and can be a serious problem. Journal it for sure, and it you start chocking while you eat, call the Doc.

And, by the way, you have to be a little nuts to get through all of this with your humor still in tact!

Thanks everyone. . .my voice has gotten deeper, it seems harder to talk and it comes and goes for almost 2 weeks now. It's embarassing! I will write in my journal and bring it to the neuro's attention. (if ever I get in!) But in all honesty. . . I am a little nuts!

My voice gets deeper after I'm on steroids. It comes back to normal within a few days. I just chalk it up to I am slowly turning into a man every time I get steroids!
