i commute to the regional campus of my university, but life at home is too stressful. my mom doesn't clean anything and doesn't work, so the responsibility falls on me because she won't discipline my other sisters and make them do chores.
they literally come home from school and get on the computer or kindle, and whine and refuse to do any work - like cleaning their room, helping with dishes, etc
i end up having to make my sister dinner, and basically function beyond what an au pair would do. (an au pair is a live-in nanny)
i am exhausted, i work and am taking 17 credit hours, then i have to come home and deal with this.
i pay $90 every three months so I won't have a kid, so honestly i dont see why i am acting more of a mother than my mom
my sisters are turning into spoiled little brats because there is no discipline
im sorry, but i'm a nanny to a child with behavioral problems and i control him better than my mom does with her own kids. they leave dirty dishes everywhere, never clean up after themselves, then expect to be taken shopping on a weekly basis. WTF
i can't do much since i'm not their parent, but this is so stupid, my mom needs to act like a f-ing parent and do her job, it's not fair to me or my dad, who works all the time to provide for these ungrateful brats from hell.
i was trying to save money by commuting, but i can't live around this any longer. They are going to grow up and be horrible people if they don't start being helpful and productive at home, and i have a sister who is a toddler, so she has to be around the misbehavior of the other two, which is not fair to her and when the girls start screaming, she cries a lot and has started having nightmares. this also wakes me up at night, so i have well beyone 12 hour days without much sleep at all, it's making my ms act up a lot mostly because i'm overworked, sleep deprived, and surrounded by a**holes.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Good luck with whatever you decide.
Your health is important! Your parents will have to step up and so will your siblings.
Hope things improve over there, for everyone's sake. :)
But 1st I agree with everyone -get out of there, the sooner the better. You are risking your health & your sanity & its not worth it..
2- is there a community carer/dormitory person or whatever at the University who helps with accommodation
3-put an ad up at university to see if anyone has a room to share, might be off campus but better than where you are.
4- If there is anyone on here that goes to same university ask them if they have any contacts & ask your friends too, you dont know till you ask.
Hope you can move soon & let us know too.
When my sons were younger, they would leave their clothing on the floor. I finally told them that I understood clothing in the hamper, and in their drawers, but I didn't understand clothing on the floor. Therefore, I would do whatever laundry was in the hamper, and nothing else. Or they could learn to use the washing machine and do their own laundry. Amazingly, they both decided to do their own. Problem solved.
As they got older, I was tired of their rooms being messy, so if they wanted to go out, their rooms had to be cleaned AND SUSTAINED for 48 hours before they could go out. So it had to be cleaned Wednesday if they wanted to go out on Friday night. No cleaning Saturday afternoon in order to go out Saturday night. That worked too.
You can use logical consequences such as the above if they expect you to take them shopping. If shopping is to a grocery store, all the dirty dishes have to be removed from their rooms DAILYand at the very least, put them in the sink with water on them. Dirty dishes in the room, no shopping.
Once they realize that there are consequences to their actions, your life will become easier. Set the rules and stick to them. Yes, your mother should be doing that, but if she is unable or unwilling to be a parent, someone has to, and unfortunately that sounds like it falls to you.
My mother suffered from depression (although she still doesn't admit it), and I remember one Christmas Eve wrapping presents for my 3 younger brothers and sisters. Dad came in and thanked me, and told me not to worry about putting bows on the packages. So I guess it's something every family goes through.
My oldest son (34) no longer lives with me. I told him he could stay here if he followed my rules, and he said he didn't even want to know what they were. I waited until after he moved out to patch the holes he had put his fist through in the walls when he was angry. No point in doing it while he was still here. And I asked him for his house key back - one of the harder things I've had to do. So he has to call to see when I'll be home before he comes over, usually to pick up mail and some clothing as the seasons change.
