I'm a reader, so spelling was never a problem. Sometimes, not too long after I was diagnosed, I found that I often couldn't spell words that I know. Not only can't I spell a word, I can't even "sound out" the word so I can spell it. I can't even google the word to get the correct spelling because I can't guess the starting letters. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I remember the starting letter but can't remember the rest. I have thought ostrich instead of octopus, leopard instead of lioness. At least I'm in the right category! Makes doing crossword puzzles (to keep my mind active) interesting.

I told my neuro that my PCP thinks I may have a food allergy, I said it starts with an A, he said avocado, I said no it's the other one, uh, artichoke.

It's almost funny since we're aware of it. It's when we become unaware that we've said the wrong word that would be scary to me.

Frustrating;) For me, happens when the first syllable is complex, like a bunch of consonants preceding the verb, especially if it involves silent letters. Gr-gr-gr, these are words most people would know and use.

Last post, and apologize for taking thread off-topic. The words I'm having trouble spelling are words I would have learned to spell by seeing in print (reading, you learn to spell words that can't be sounded out). This is definitely a memory problem, and it's frustrating as I've been spelling these words for thirty or forty years. Of course, I have the typical problems of not being able to pull up words or names. The spelling, for some reason, gnaws at me.

Joshua ... I was a teacher, & we have to be able to spell everything. Good thing I retired a few years ago, because I now am asking my husband how to spell silly, easy words. At times Spell Check can't often help because I'm so far off.

YES -- and sometimes I completely forget how to spell a word. I really have to proofread everything at least 2 or 3 times.
